Hi all
Since changing the exhaust on my 1999 Bravo 80sx 1.2 16valve i'v been havin probs with idlethey wouldnt go below 1500rpm and were jumping between 1500 & 2000 prm. I'v changed plugs , filter cleanded idle valve in throttle body reset ECU with no change. I then changed the LAMBDA sensor still no change. iv disconnected the idle actuator and gave it a clean put it back and now prm 2000 jumpin to 2500 so i took idle actuator of throttle body but left it connected to the loom I knew ther would be no idle but ther no jumping of revs so is it safe to assume that the IDLE ACTUATOR seems to be the source of my problems or does anybody have other ideas. I work for BOSCH and get my parts cheap i.e £55 for idle actuator :bang:

Like you- I can't think of anything else it could be. Does it run clean above idle e.g. no hesitation or misfiring? -thinking plug leads or coilpack. Idle valve is a common problem on the 1.2 Bravo. Mine went at 6k miles but my probs were that it would hardly idle at all- 500rpm and stalling then 1200rpm.

Did you give it enough time for a full ECU reset as the ECU sometimes "loses it" with the idle valve and goes into a sulk and they just don't want to talk to one another after that
The fact that things changed when you cleaned the idle valve points to that being the culprit too. Did you do your best to clean the contacts at the idle valve electrical connector? Sometimes tapping the idle valve with the wrong end of a screwdriver and threatening it with the scrapyard makes the idle waver or even cure itself

Runs fine when you pull off and sometimes idle at 900rpm but then creeps back up to 1500rpm tap the throttle pedal and dips back down also if put in gear with brake on let clutch out a little it idles normally put clutch back in and off it goes again. Left batt off all night to reset ECU. Took idle actuator into work today gave it to a tech in the clean room and he took it apart and cleaned it but still the same when put back onto car maybe £55 for new actuator the best bet then..Thank you for your reply il post when get new part next week... many thanks (y)

hay i have a simliar problem with my 1999 1.2 it idles under 1000 and missfires and splutters hard to explain hope u get the idea any help pls cheers

by idle actuator do you mean the throttle positon sensor? i remeber some one on this forum has the same model and same symtoms at it was the throttle position sensor that was the cause.

if disconnecting the TPS make the problem go away then you can be fairly sure its the problem.

Ya Jug, I had the similar problem and it was solved by what T14086 said.

Mine did this after I ran it right down then filled it right up, it was fine when cold but when warm it was fluctuating and cut out (once at lights with peoiple watching) :( After a top-up of redex and clean of the idle control it was back to its usual purring self (y)
