Hi,
This is my first post so forgive me if it goes pair shaped! Does anyone have an idea as to why this Brava, after working fine 30 mins earlier, has suddenly started to play up when it was restarted. It would idle quiet well before, but now it refuses to idle at all unless I use the accelerator to hold the revs above the usual idle speed. As soon as I take my foot off the accelerator the car dies. It will start up again ok, but unless I press the accelerator it will die again. When I try and hold the revs at around 2000rpm to keep the engine alive, the engine starts to over rev as if I have pressed the accelerator a lot harder.
I will be buying a haynes manual later to locate all the sensors ect that you guys may recommended I check. I'm quiet good under the bonnet, but have no experience of fuel injection systems. Any help no matter how technical would be a great help as it's going to be a nightmare if I have to drive this car all the way to the Fiat dealer.
Thanks, Justin

Hi Justin and welcome to the forum,:D

What engine you got? First thought is temp sensor reading too high and leaning out mix too soon.

Nige,
You totally lost me on that one, is it senility or geordie syndrome?;)

I'm not sure what the temp/ohm graph is for the sensor. Anyone else got it?

I found the Ohm figures for the temp sensor and after testing it at cold I believe this to be ok. I am now gonna try the idle control valve / sensor. I know I can't really test it, but from what I have read elsewhere, they can become dirty and in need of cleaning. What is the best way to clean it, a brush or with fluids like petrol? Also is there anything I should watch for whilst removing and cleaning the sensor?
Thanks

Justin,

Sorry not had one out before. A water based non abrasive cleaner should be safe.
