Hi, am currently lowering my car on gmax springs (bravo 1.8). Managed to undo the bolts after a major effort and a nights soaking in penetrating oil, but now i cant actually take the bottom bolts out as the bottom of the brake line gets in the way. Cant undo the brake line either. Should i just cut the bottom bolts and get some more from fiat? The problem is it will be just as hard fitting the new ones back on. I know in haynes it says you should fit the bolts back the same way, but can you fit them he other if i really have to? Any ideas...appreciated. Dan

hi dan.
sounds like you have to take the leg off to get the bolt out. not as hard as you think. are you sure the brake line has no give in it?:)

Bottom of the flexible brake hose? If so pop it out of the holder on the strut and move it out of the way. I've done a couple of front suspension changes on tipo/bravo and the usual problem is how to get the bolt out - not brake hoses getting in the way... Normally you belt it with a mallet until it is flush with the strut - then drift it out with a suitable drift.

Finally got the bolts out. The cables they were stuck on were the abs ones i think, so i just cut them and put them back together afterwards.

Couldnt get the top off the strut so gave up when it started raining. Gonna get my mechanic to do it for me with a service... :D

Cheers for your help. Dan

i had no problems getting the struts off the car, but i still havent managed to get the top nut off the shock. its hard trying to use a ring spanner and allen key, i've used so much force that i've bent the slot for the allen key, i even tried using a blow torch and clamping the shock in a vice but it wont budge. im thinking about going to a scappy and getting a pair with looser nuts to lower then i'll just swap them with mine. its crap when an easy half hour job becomes a mission and a half.
