Technical Fiat Bravo 1.9TD

Recently purcahased a 1997 Bravo 100SX TD from the local auction. Im wondering if anyone can shed any light on what would be wrong with it. I think the gasket is away as the engine is loosing water and there is quite a bit of oil around it. Although the oil is fine and doesnt look as if there is any water mixed with it. Also the battery will not hold its charge but as it is a new battery i think it is an alternator problem. Has anyone heard of this sort of thing before?

I can get an engine from a 1.9JTD engine from a Brava but am not certain that it would fit. If anyone knows if this is possible I wouold be very grateful for any information you could provide.

1. Gasket probably! Difficult to tell without it in front of me
2. Charging issue probably unless the wrong battery has been installed as a cheap get it to the auction

3. And yes the JTD engine will fit, you may need the manifold and possible the exhaust too. You will also need the ECU as it si a completely different engine map and the old one will NOT work. Therefore, you will also need the keys (inc master) from the donor and the lock barrels... at least!But the JTD is 10 times better than the TD.

Afraid I've also got a 100td with a knackered engine. Seems loads of others must have too because I've been trying for 4 months to pick one up without any luck. Those that I have been offered have been £1000+. I don't have the red key but I guess replacing with another 100td engine 100td engine will it be ok because I'll be using the same ECU ? Is it right the 100td engine was only used in Bravo/Brava/Marea for 1996-98 ?

I have also been offered a 100JTD engine, for £500 at my local breaker and this topic is making me think.....maybe get one of them instead. Will it mate to the td gearbox ok or have I got to replace that too ?

If I need the manifold and exhaust, and keys/key barrels (which will solve my red key problem), do I also need the fuel pump and any other bits ?

I really need your help here chaps, so I can get this thing out of my garage. Otherwise, I will be breaking it pretty soon !!!!!!

Whats actually wrong with yours "fat face"? My block cracked so dunno what to do. YOu have any luck with yours yet?
