Hey all.

I'm new to this forum, this being my first post.
I have a silver 2001/X reg 1.2 Bravo which I've owned for a year now. The past month or two I've had problems with the car failing to start up and/or the rev counter jumping. Isn't it supposed to stay at 8,000 revs when stationary? I start the car up and sometimes it sticks at 9,000/10,000 or it'll be as low as 4,000! When approaching a junction/lights this happens again, mainly dropping to 4,000 revs or even cutting out, which means I can't steer or brake properly!

Cheers for any help

hi,i think you mean 800 rpm etc.anyway im no expert on these things but if your rev counter is jumping it could be down to the coil but i would wait till someone more experienced replies.what have you done/checked so far?B)
ps.welcome to the forum

A mate's dad had a look, he opened the bonnet, took the cover off the main part of engine (you can probably tell I don't know much about engine's!) and tightened a cog, or a bolt? That helped a bit, but the revs were just a bit too high after that.

to be honest theres loads of things that it could be.the first thing i would do is check all the induction hoses for leaks and then spark plug connections etc to eliminate basic problems before you look at mechanical faults.the induction hose is a huge plastic hose that runs from the air filter
