This might be it...I'm no technical genius but I had the same prob on my old Lancia Delta. It turned out to be a blocked breather pipe fromt the bottom end of the engine. it was a two minute job to replace it. Dont ask me where the breather pipe is on the Bravo/a though. I presume they have one??
as the last man said.breather pipes can get blocked, and cause a preasure build up.it happend to me on a cavalier.dont know whare or if fitted to bravas, oil also came out of my oil filler cap.
Yeah, never thought of that:I
7 different engine types though, which one you got?.

I had the same problem ,i'd had a problem reading the oil level , no matter how much oil i put in it never read on the dipstick ,then the dipstick had been forced out by crankcase back pressure , when i lifted the bonnet eveything was splattered with engine oil .
The problem was a blocked crankcase breather hose . After finding it ( right side at the top of the engine , feeding into the air inlet ) i removed the wire mesh spiral type filter , absolutely clogged with gunk and oil , cleaned it in white spirit , replaced it and re-assembled it all , so far so good and now i have some oil reading on the dipstick , hope this helps someone .
Thanks for the small note regarding the wire filter in the rocker cover. Saw that bit and everything dropped into place. Mine also was full of gunk that had set solid. cleaned it out with petrol, dried it off and perfect solution found.
thanks again for posting about this provided exact solution for me
