Hi All,
Has anyone has heard of ticking sound coming from the throttle body (injector area) of a Brava 1.4sx (single-point injector SPI) when the engine is running ? Is this pointing at a possible problem with the injector ?
After an oil change today, I tried to locate where the ticking noise is coming from. And that is when I discover the noise is actually coming from the throttle body rather than the engine block (tappets).
Basically, the noise is there all the time, it ticks about 2-3 times a second when engine is idle. Whilst driving, you can hear it tick faster as you drive faster and the noise is not as loud and clear and almost appears to have disappeared. But once you slow down, you can hear it again.
I took the air box cover off to have a look, and did not see anything suspect. I tried a few short burst with injector cleaner. But the ticking noise is still there.
Having read through many posts on this forum, I have always thought that the ticking noise is most probably associated with "tappets". I guess the only real thing you can do is change these and also do frequent oil changes, as some of you pointed out that this model also suffers from "oil starvation" around the cam shaft area. I have not changed the tappets but I do frequent oil changes (every 6-7k).
It's just making me think now that my problem is not tappets at all.
Any advice appreciated.
By the way...
