Hey there,

I got a 2000 Brava and I bought a set of JBL CS760Cs the other day. I went to a car shop to get them connected.

However the guy at the shop did not connect the woofers to the crossover, instead he just connected tweeters to the crossover and woofers are connected through the cable coming from the stereo.

Having no experience with sound systems, I would like to ask you guys whether I should change the connection or not. Does that effect sound quality, if so is it worth changing the connection? I can't really believe what they say at car shops anymore.


After watching the guy do it, I figure I could do it easily on my own with some tools.

As a general rule speakers are designed to best produce a certain frequency, with a two way system it is normal to have high frequency and low/mid. The corresponding output from the crossover should be connected to the matched speaker. If the full range output from a head unit is connected to a mid/bass speaker then as the speakers range is unlikely to be capable of producing high frequency it just won’t reproduce the high end. How ever if you deliver the full range to a tweeter, then damage is quite likely. Most audio set ups in vehicles have massive mismatches between output figures from the head unit and the working range of the speaker, and the lack of sealed air/ correct levels of free air around the speakers again is detrimental to the way they are designed to work. To get the best from your system it should be connected as per the outputs on the crossover.
