Check the gasoline pressure with a professional manometer...and then are you sure your spark plugs are still good[8)][?]

New to the forum and saw this and it brought back horrible memories. My garage did the usual starter motor change out in response to the same symptoms with no effect.

Cut a long story short, just as they were about to give up in bafflement they checked the battery (step 1 I would've thought !) and it turns out it was shorting at operating temp. Presumably there was a dodgy cell that was warping under temp and shorting somewhere in the battery. Changed battery - problem solved ! I presume you've had the problem solved by now but I posted just in case.

Now to find why my mileometer LED has died...

This is a topic I have seen on the forum before and is also one that I am experiencing with my Brava 1.4S. I am hoping that there is someone out there who may just be able to point us hot start problem types in the right direction.

Basically my car will start when cold (frosty mornings too) with no fuss at all. However, if the engine has run fully up to temperature and is switched off for longer than 10 or 15 minutes it will not start. Sometimes it will cooperate and after 15 minutes or so. The other evening it took 2 hours before it started.

I recently had an AA call out to look at it & the patrolman checked out the obvious things like spark, charging etc (all fine). He suggested it may be a fuel thing but could only suggest replacing the fuel pump and ecu relays, which I have done. The car of course started before he could do any further diagnosis! I have also replaced the plugs, HT leads and battery. All to no avail.

I would be really pleased if anyone could shed some more light on what seems to be a recurring problem with the 1,4 engine.

Thanks

The car has just let me down on a busy junction! I was waiting for the lights to change and it started idling slightly roughly and as soon as I started to pull away the engine stopped & I wasn't able to get it started again and had to push it round the corner to park it (mutter, mutter!!!!). The ECU warning light did not come on and never has when I have had these hot start problems (see my previous post in this thread).

Could this be a problem with the SPI unit? If so is it possible to have these repaired or does one have to cough up for a new one? or is it an ECU problem?

I would be most grateful if any one could provide me with some advice.

Thanx

Update! I got the AA out to help and after a fairly long diagnosis the guy came to the conclusion that it was either an earth fault in the wiring (to the air temp switch, black & white wire) to the throttle body/injector or the injector itself. Everything else checked out i.e. fuel pump, spark, inertia fuel switch etc etc.

So question is where is the most economic place to purchase a new throttle body (SPI) & how much? Is it worth looking for a second hand one? Are there service kits available?

All help/suggestions appreciated.

thanks
