Hi guys, I have have some big plans for my Fiat Bravo HGT 155, but I am going to need a lot of help and advice. I plan to do an engine change, preferably swapping the engine for an Alfa v6, as it looks and sounds great. Any advice on whats parts are needed and advice on how would be much appreciated. This is the first, hopefully start to get some pictures on here soon on the progress so far. Cheers Joseph

It's alot of work , this was the plan for my Marea Weekend,

First you will need a donor car with engine , gearbox, loom, ecu and front suspension and all electricals
Best to start with a GTV V6 as the suspension components are identical as the bravos

Pain in the faff and Alfa V6's are getting either expensive or 2.5's are dirt cheap.

Get a Stilo Abarth with a knackered gearbox (plenty of them around for less than £300) and use the 2.5 block to stroke out your engine or swap completely. A lot of the Coupe' turbo guys have seen 400-600bhp out of these units so the potential is there. :)

Also it's a mount and a rubber difference to fit. You can even use a Coupe' six speed box if you can find one.

Styling? I'm a fan of stealth. Keep the car completely standard looking but with a kick in the engine bay. ;)

Cheers for the replies, really like the look and sound of the alfa, so really looking to do this engine swap. Are there any other major components needed? Also, I'm guessing the mounts are in the same place? Cheers

A complete donor car. The ECU and key chip will need to be swapped so basically the whole loom as well just to get the engine up and running. You could use a stand alone ECU but then you would need to bypass the Fiat immobiliser so swapping looms would be a lot easier.

Alfa 156 2.5 would be the cheapest route but swapping a 2.0 for a 2.5 will set alarm bells off with the DVLA so expect to need an engineers report and possibly assessment before you can drive it on the road. Personally to make it worth while I would get a 166 manual with the 3.0 24v anything else will be slower than your original HGT engine.

Even though the car is based around a shared platform the Bravo was never built with a V6 so you may need to make engine mounts combining both cars or get custom ones made.

It can and has been done...

...but it is a lot of work. The 2.0 Turbo V6 from the Alfa GTV is a popular swap on the continent but too rare to be affordable over here.
