General Broom Yellow HLX

General Broom Yellow HLX

Just gave the car a good service, made sure the tyre pressures are okay and it was mostly 50-60mph roads so barely ticking over. ;)

...and it's off now I've filled the tank. :)

Low fuel pressure due to running nearly empty? I'd better get the filter changed before I hit the track. ;)

Last night while I was fitting new brakes when I discovered a Russian opera level of tragedy. I thought I had run over cake.

Turns out it was Malt Loaf.

Anything described as a "loaf" is a kind of bread so it's okay. (y)

New brakes, wheels and tyres fitted ready for tomorrows track day for Olivia...

...but a direct debit went wrong I set it up last month for £50 and they took out £500 by mistake.

They'll refund the difference but it will take 48 hours. Great as I need the money in the morning! :bang:

I've probably spent more than £70 on my first 500 miles. People seem to think it'll level out - hasn't been driven much recently.

The initial halo period of ownership you probably won't get good performance until you acclimatize yourself to the characteristics of the car.

When I first got my Panda Fizz I couldn't get as good MPG as my Fantasia but it didn't take long to iron out the quirks and get us to the old girl.

I suppose that today is the track day? Hope it goes well. Is it at Blyton? My mate does some Superbike instructing there, he's just upgraded from an R6 Yam to an ex Ron Haslam school Fireblade.

I must say you're the complete opposite to me... if I was doing the trackday I would have left the brakes and tyres alone, and just ragged the sh!t out of them on the track just to get full value from them and see what the standard car was like with extreme driving. Then I would have upgraded and done a comparison next time around...

What bits did you buy?

Is that photo of the standard wheel with a Pirelli P6000?

Right tyre but a Barchetta wheel. Needed 10mm spacers and longer bolts to fit.

I didn't make it to Blyton due to the mix up. Probably just as well because I've just checked online and the MOT expired on February 23rd.

:bang:

Oh well you shouldn't fail on brakes or tyres anyway.

Interesting choice the Barchetta wheels, presumably you just wanted an alternative set to swap on and off? Can't see they'd actually be an improvement over the stock wheels or are they lighter or something? I can't say I'd choose to do a trackday using spacers and extended bolts!

Looking forward to some photos when everything's sorted!

They were the ones that were for sale for a price I could afford.

They look a bit like the ***** spoke ones Jeremy Clarkson had on the Vauxhall Frontera without the balls. The original wheels paint is peeling off so I was going to strip them properly and paint them black (black wheels on a yellow car never fails).

I didn't know they wouldn't fit as the Barchetta is part of the modular platform Fiats.

I may re-sell them to fund the repairs. ;)

I've ordered a new outer CV kit for the passenger side...

...bargain £18 and the same as the HGT and Punto GT if anyone needs a pair I'll let you know if they're any good. :)

Paid for but still in Buxton until I can get a trailer wide enough cheap enough or pop over and fix the brakes so she can be driven home on trade plates. :)

The Barchetta wheels are in the classifieds now so I can get tyres for the original wheels.

I've already fixed the front brakes so I may as well see what else is wrong before I get the old bus tested. :)

One thing that continues to bug me. Three years ago I bought the special tool for doing up CV boot straps and to date I have never had a CV or boot kit with the old style straps. Even this kit comes with the fold over push the flaps to lock type. Typical of me to buy the right tool for the job just as it becomes obsolete.
