I have been advised that my front brake pads & discs need to replace soon.

I am very broke now. Do you think I still can drive the car for 5 to 8 more months before I change it?

If I continue drive it, it will it damage my car?

if your pads and discs do nearly need changeing then it is for your safety best to get it done however i would seek a second opinion from a friend that really knows about car mechanics if they thought the brake pads and discs were that bad as a lot of garages would say this to get the job by worried car owners that know nothing about cars

Hi,
was this just mentioned in an MOT test..?,
or an actual wheel-off brake inspection

I've had a warning at MOT's before.. only to strip it and find things are only 50% worn..,and have lasted another 2 x years..,

OK - did they quote thicknesses?,
as the pads start with @ 7mm and want replacing once down to 2mm

discs - thickness varies.. - but any pronounced "LIPS" indicate significant wear,

Also be careful when inspecting your brake pads make sure you check the brake pad on the rear/back of the disc aswell as the front/outside of the disc. The pads can wear down at dramatically differing rates if your brake calliper's are sticking. In the past my car had a pad on the back of the disc to the metal and on the front of the disc at about 50%

Have a look on for example eurocarparts site.
They sell very good quality discs and pads. It's a fairly easy diy job. Well worth the cost.

You would jeopardise your own safety and whats worse other people. Get the brakes serviced, not an option to leave them.

Thanks for the suggestion. I doubt I can do it myself because my DIY skill is bad. I will try to look for someone to fix it from whocanfixmycar.com and etc...

Hopefully can get a good price for fitting

I based in High Wycombe. No worries, I managed to get someone do the job for me. He just charge £45 for the job (part not included)
