Ok heres the problem, please someone help! When my lights are on and I brake, the lights in the back are not right, and the left turn signal wont work. When the lights are on at all, the left turn signal flashes with two lights on the back but the right is fine. When my lights are off, my left turn signal works fine, except when I press the brake, and then it goes off. Also when I press the brake the left turn signal light illuminates slightly, but wont work. Im hoping this is something simple but guessing not. Thanks everyone!

A bad earth. Electricity always takes the easiest route and it's lost it's path to earth so it's going everywhere else. Need to clean the contacts somewhere on the earth line to complete the circuit. Check the earth circuit from the light cluster to earth. If you have tailgate electrical contacts they may be causing the poor connection

So to do that I would need to take the instrument cluster out? Why would the problem be in so many places? Thanks for your reply

hi,same thing happened to my punto, you will either have a bad connection in the plug where it is corroded or has been getting hot,you should notice one of the terminals is discoloured,if so you will need to scrape away at it with a small flat headed screwdriver to clean it up but don't press too hard because you need to keep the connection tight.you could also make an additional earth (this is what i did).you will need to splice into the earth wire (which i think will be black but you would need to find out for sure) and then connect a wire to it and then earth that wire out to the body, you should be able to screw it down somewhere behind the lense, just make sure you scratch the paint off to make a good contact.hope this has helped you. ;)

Thanks for the info. One question though. you said a bad connection in the plug. Which one? Several lights are crazy so Im not sure which one you are talking about. Thanks again

Check for a bad earth between the rear light cluster and the car body. (Don't take your instrument cluster out, the problem won't be there)

If you have a Brava then you will also have electrical contacts in your tailgate that only make contact when the tailgate is closed. These may not be making good contact so need to be cleaned up and checked out

"Why would the problem be in so many places?"

It's not. It will only be in one place most likely but the electricity has to find a way through to earth and it's going through some of the other bulbs and then to earth making them illuminate although dimmer than usual. Once you have cured the poor earth problem all the other problems will disappear

if you take out both the rear lamps there will be a plug going into them, the poor connection should be in there.

Genius. Pure Genius. every one of you. It was a bad ground on the rear left light, the one that was messing up. Every single othe problem fixed itself when i cleaned the connection. It was badly burned, and I dont know what could have caused the problem in the first place, maybe the fact that my fan switch went out and i hot-wired it back up to a toggle switch. I dont know. Either way, everything works now and I have many thanks to all of you.

Cheers
