Got a punto, but am fed up with its tiny size (have to fold rears down for everything!) and would like a medium sized car.
Probably looking at either a diesal or a 1.8 HGT?? (you'll have to correct me if I get stuff wrong as I don't know much about them).

Are there any general probs and niggly things I should look out for?

Just the rear wiper and washer that comes to mind really, wiper can tick away and the washer can also not wash the rear window (this can be either the pipe coming loose inside the rear door area or the wiper motor having issues).

Mines a Brava but its the same car, Size wise they are very big inside, although Im not sure on the boot size difference between the brava and the bravo, as I think the brava does have a larger boot. Should make a noticable difference compared to the Punto though.

If you can, try go for a 1.9jtd SX :)

the bravo is such a great step up from the punto, i went from a punto to a bravo and totally fell in love with the car and was truly gutted when i had to sell it, as quite a few people on here can vouch for how gutted i ws, if i need a second car then i def would buy one again without a doubt!

I'm with Scorg, I love having the larger boot, I can fit 4 medium sized suitcases in there no bother! The 5 doors are also handy if you'll be carrying lots of stuff and lugging stuff on the back seats. Although you are looking at larger engine sizes, steer clear of the 1.4 - it guzzles gas and the performance isn't brilliant.

My Bravo 1.8 HLX was an awesome car, I bought it on an S-plate with 38,000 on the clock, things I had to replace were the brake pipes due to corrosion, and also a flat battery, other than that it was trouble free motoring till I sold it earlier in the year with 63,000 on the clock.Has nice touches like the heated seats, electric mirrors and sunroof, and the style of it is so much smarter than the usual Astra,Focus etc.

I put some 17's on it and it really set the car off, I'd defo recommend one, only reason I sold it was due to my love of Centos :)

Don't forget the Cambelt either, think I did mine on 47,000

My Bravo 1.2 has astonished me. Real fun and utterly reliable. Most surprisingly, it's been the cheapest car ever to maintain. I reckon about £1200 for 5 year motoring. 100k on the clock now and still used daily. Runs almost the same now as when I bought it 5 years ago. Superb car

Into Stilos too now but couldn't stand selling the Bravo so I kept it!

As others say, stay clear of the 1.4. The 1.2 beats it hands down

hey guys just read up on the dilema. just referring to scorgs post. i have a brava too and mine has that anoying click. guess wat its the relay. dont bother gettin it looked at do wat i did cut the relay wire and wahey no more noise. the only change it makes is that the rear wiper doesnt pause for ten seconds. job done.

I wonder if i can convince H to sell his primera and buy a nice shiney bravo :D
No chance! :D Next car has to be particularly cheap to run, and preferably super reliable. Desirable candidates include:
Smart Roadster (cheap to run, but not so reliable)
Merc A-class diesel (cheap to run)
Alfa GT Coupe diesel
Seat Ibiza FR TD
Lotus Elise/Vauxhall VX 220 (Cheap on fuel, but not to insure)
Ferrari 456 (Keep on dreaming... (y) )

Look! No Bravos in that list, and only one Fiat ;)
H

Except it will be neither cheap to run or reliable...lol, but then again, he has a smart roadster on the list!

In Clarkson's words "Every petrol head has to have owned an alfa once"
