Dear members!

* I want to clear the error code on an Brava SX 1.4 Airbag ECU
* Using KKL cable and Win7 x86 + drivers from Windows Update
* COM5 port driver setup to minimum delay
* multiecuscan set to COM5, testing interface is OK (connected to Airbag ECU + key on MAR)
* Select: Bravo\Brava 1.4 12V --> Airbag

Case 1: Scan Modules (F11)
- Airbag
- UNKNOWN/UNSUPPORTED
- ISO Code: 26 86 80 80 01
- COMPLETED

Case 2: BREED Airbag (1st option)
- Cannot connect to module

Case 3: BREED MY97 Airbag (2F)
- Connected: Invalid ISO code
- ECU ISO code: 26 86 80 80 01
- FIAT drawing number: 00 46 53 77 77
- SW version: 1.1
- HW version: 1.0
- ECU programming date: 01.07.2053

* Error code:
- 09 - Passenger squib circuit: Value too high: Intermittent/Present: 229

* 1.5 years before I replaced (re soldered) the connector pins in the ECU connection of the ECU because the original pins have corroded and the ECU lost its ground if I remember correctly. Then after a reset at the car shop it worked OK. For further protection I have enclosed the airbag ECU in a plastic sac because of the bloody condensing moisture coming from the heating tubes.

* The airbag lamp lit up after replacing joint of the cable from the alternator to the battery, hence I suspected a low voltage warning and didn't ask the guys in the shop to reset the warning light.

Question 1: My Brava is a 1999 with only *one* airbag, the passenger has no airbag, so this error code should relate to the squib in the steering wheel?

Question 2: Is my Airbag really not supported or have I overlooked something?
Numbers on the ECU casing from top to bottom: 46537777
5WK42700 99902600 C404
Bar code: 99902600A98223441394 33980304

Question 3: Are there any common faulty connectors for the airbag to check? Where do I start?

Question 4: Is this airbag ECU fitted with a dummy passenger squid resistance which has lost connection?

Thank you in advance and have a marry Christmas!

Thank you, I did so: Home > Miscellaneous > Tech Talk > Pls help identify Brava Airbag ECU model!

moderator pulled it..

not helpful in my book:(

that's why I use this forum ...to try and exchange relevant info..
no donations from me now..,

if i moderated i would call more than one posting spam too

reading OPs issue i would suggest he really shouldnt be messing if he cant understand he has corrupted something like an airbag ecu

Oh really?
Well given I left the post in place
moved this one to tech, then moved it back with a redirect so it showed in both sections.
Shall I suggest what you can do with your donation?

I agree with everything custard did there, he did far more than needed.

Anyway I have to ask is the car definitely a 1.4 1370cc 12 valve engine on a 1999 plate? The 1.4 12valve was replaced by a 1.2 1242cc 16 valve engine in 1998.
Either its a very late registered Mk1 or a Mk2 that could possibly have a different ECU for the Airbag

The passenger seat only has a sensor if the car has is a passenger airbag. Form the guides and posts I have read the wiring of the KKL cable has to be changed to work with an airbag ECU, some have dip switches and others showed rewiring the cable.

Guys please don't start this quarrel over a simple post! The post shows up on both forums, this is even better (if someone could delete the duplicating -closed- topic, would be even better)!

@s and b: The car is a '99 Brava SX 1.4 with one airbag. I would be glad if you could simply ask rather than prejudging form the start. You know, if you don't feel answering to a beginner, just don't. You won't help with sarcasm.

@s and b: "reading OPs issue i would suggest he really shouldn't be messing if he cant understand he has corrupted something like an airbag ecu"
* What is OPs issue? I don't know what this means, sorry.
* Corrupting my ACU: let this be my problem, just write down the info if you have some, or don't fill up the topic with irrelevant text.

@Adrian Bravo: How can I decide exactly what make is this car? In the registration paper it states 1370cc, my engine code begins with 182A3 which should help if I remember correctly. The KKL (FT232R based) cable has a DIP switch built into it, I know what you are talking about, but if this was a problem, there would be no connection to the ACU at all.

When the electric shops open, I'll buy a resistor and connect it instead of the only airbag. If this fails to clear the problem, I will start looking for broken cables (as far as I know, the cables at the steering wheel can easily break after some years)

what you forgot to mention in your long list of spec of what you are using
KKL lead etc - do you have the adapter lead ( red one) to connect to the airbag ecu or are you just using the lead.
I use the VAG KL lead and red adapter to connect to airbag ecu, works everytime

Hi jon1612!

I have that type of FT232RL USB-->UART based cable:
h**p://www.aliexpress.com/item-img/USB-OBD-II-2-KKL-409-1-OBD2-Cable-VAG-COM-for-VW-AUDI/570194672.html

This adapter cable:
h**p://dx.com/p/3-pin-to-16-pin-obd-2-diagnostic-cable-for-fiat-116434

First I got the CH340 based KKL cable, but I couldn't get it to work in any way with the Brava I bought the FT232 based one, this has a manual DIP switch for pin assignments.

The adapter cable has two crocodile clips for power, I plug them into the molex extension of the cigar lighter (gets power on MAR position of the ignition key).

this is why i wont help with airbags and people who really shouldnt be messing
do you know anybody in the trade injured because of airbags?
i do
i would see litigation rearing its head if we helped you as you plunder in with cocodile clips(n)

Well I can not really see if I take the airbag out how could this hurt me. Either way it's OK not to help me, I'll just wait for someone who will :)

My airbag light is on about two months now, i took the dash apart to change some light bulbs and it keeps being on, i took the car to a garage but they couldn't do much they could only connect to the engine by the 3 connector pin in the engine compartment, i'm asking this:

Is there a separate plug for the airbag ? my car is a 1994 1.4 12V Brava MK1 182A5 (engine code).

If there is where is it located, i only have a single airbag for the driver side, it's a really early model car.

Hi! The airbag unit has certainly another plug. It's best you take the glove box compartment out, and behind it you'll see a yellow cable that's plugged to a blind connector (leads nowhere, is just a dust cover).

Have just checked this out for you.

1) Your car is technically a 1V BRAVA BZ/DS (1995 to 1998). I can provide more data but you will have to PM me your chassis number. So your car was built in 1998 or less and I assume only registered in 1999.

2) The part number 46537777 is the correct and only part number (and thus make) of airbag ECU fitted to your car.

3) The car only ever had the ONE drivers airbag

4) I does have, as you have found out, a cable harness for a passenger airbag, however none was fitted.

5) As there is no passenger air bag there is a resistor block, P/N:71712735, connected to the passenger airbag cable connector.

6) Original airbag ECU is no longer available and out of production as far as Fiat are concerned.

Based on all the above I think that your problem lies with the cabling and/or the dummy resistor.

With regards to MultiECUScan then I think you airbag is not officially supported and/or the ISO Code is not recognised/programmed in MES to be acceptable.

I've looked at all the Bravo/Brava airbags the single bag is basic Breed ECU is part number 60656767. For two bags (even if you only have one fitted) then the P/N is 51711816.

The fact that you can connect with the Breed 2L option means that your ECU is at least recognised and readable and it is an ISO Code issue.

As you have posted in the MES forum then Yani will pick up on the issue and take it from there.

Airbag problem solved, working fine now, in the plastic bag after re-soldering all pins and cleaning every bit of the cables, joints! Error free, and light is off :)

I can summarize the procedure with pictures if needed.

The bigger problem is the leaking coolant from the heating radiator itself, but this will have to wait until spring

Thank you all for the help!
