Hello all,

I was at a Fiat dealership yesterday concerning a problem with the air pressure sensor... (second time in 9 months) and some of their answers troubled me...

They charge me 180 euros and I found it at a friend for 100 euros...
And now my question... is it a straight fit or I need to adjust anything else?

Also when I mentioned to them a reset of the ECU by disconnecting a battery lead overnight, they told me that this applies only for models from 1999 and back and not for my model 2001... does anyone know if this is true? Also they told me than an action like that, would mess up with other electronic components of the car... true or false?

There is an inherent problem with the top end of the 1.4 12v brava engine. What can happen is that if the oil is not changed regularly, or you use the wrong grade of oil, the spray bar over the camshaft can become blocked.

The spray bar delivers the oil through *very* tiny holes onto the lobes of the camshaft. I've been advised that the oil pump on the 1.4 is rather weak, and does not deliver enough pressure to keep these holes open under these circumstances.

In these cases, what will happen is that the lobes on the camshaft will heat up and wear rapidly. You will first notice a "tappet" noise, followed by an ear splitting screech. Eventually the engine will seize.

I have that tappet noise from my valves and that screeching noise only when the engine is cold... I change oil every 5000 km and the Fiat Dealership told me that it is normal and nothing to worry as the valves are self-regulated and the screeching sound exists till the pressure of the oil becomes high...

To be honest I do not trust them... In your opinion I should procced to a camshaft change before it is too late? or is it something else?

Thank you in advance.

i just brought a 14.s 12 valve.
and i suspect the aps. the car sounds like its missing . it starts ok. but has no power. if you keep you foot down it picks up like a snail. it will run and get up to speed but its just like the engine is having a day off. it accelerates in slow motion. did you suffer these symptoms.
could this also sign of a worn valve. i just heard its common on the 1.4 12 valve. although the engine has only completed 51,000 miles. i have had tipo 1.4 engines that have been smooth as the day they were built on 150,000 miles.
i have checked that there is spark at all plugs.
strong spark.
from past experince it does not seem like a injecter problem.
it just got no go.
i suppose a compression test wont ago amiss to check the compression.
it doesnt smoke so it cant be worn piston rings unless the oil rings are ok and the compression rings worn. will get the compression check asap.

it wouldnt miss anyway if it was compression.
any ideas anyone.

thanks

Resetting the ecu will not to any damage, only chance of that is if arcing occured when refitting terminal, but this is rare.

Problems with the motor throttle(if fitted)logs a manifold pressure sensor code by the way.
