car is a 1.2 16v and it like "holds back" when accelerating, eg over 3000rpm with foot to the floor it just doesnt pull as hard as it should do  so i was looking for broken vacuum pipes and saw this and wondered if a pipe should be connected to it? what is it ?

looks like an electric connection to me too,
but theremay well be a few that are "extra's" on the wiring loom,

Best bet is to get the Fault codes read to look for errors,

maybe disconnect the battery overnight , just to see if it helps too,

ahh i just took it to bits and its like a blank connector for the blue wire thats probably not in use on my model of engine.

YES - thast's pretty much what we meant,
about you "power tailing off" issue,
are nay warning lights coming on / been on..??

if so get the codes read..,
otherwise a disconnection of the battery's negative lead overnight, may well help as the ECU will re-learn in the next few trips,

let us know what you find, ;)

no never had any warning lights ever. battery disconnect doesnt help.

can i clean the map sensor or stepper motor?
what should the plug gaps be for this engine?

If you have the fly by wire throttle body it could be the stepper motor or the pedal sensor if you have the one with a proper throttle cable the stepper motor wont be the cause since it only controlls the rpm up to something like 2000.

The plugs are already pre-gapped. Just change them for the small price, they should be changed once a year anyway.

Id try a scrap yard coil pack or test it using a voltmeter. Heres the test:
Id also try cleaning as many electrical contacts, plugs and earth points as I could with some electrical contac cleaner. Including the flue pump ones in the boot.
