Hi,

I am in the process of replacing the power steering pump but I cannot find a way of actually removing the pump from the engine bay. I have disconnected all the pipes, nuts etc but how to get it out alludes me.

As you are all aware there is very little information on 1.9JTD in terms of Haynes manuals and the fiat CDs etc but I was hoping that someone has some idea of what is required.

I see that there is a previous post with regard to a 1.9TD but this was back in 2009 and I was hoping that someone might know something new.

I am working on a driveway and have access to most hand tools.

Regards

Lee

Im looking through my manuals for the JTD but not having much luck so far in the mean time I know on my 1.4 and 1.8 you have to remove the pully from the powersteering pump before you can take the pump off the aluminium engine bracket, trying to remove the bracket as a whole is a no go since you would need to remove the cambelt plus you would still need to remove the pump from bracket.

To stop the pump spinning I put a breaker bar on one nut while i loosened the others.

ePer certainly shows it as being fixed that way on the JTD in its little representational drawings which arnt true to the car everytime.

Hi,

I have removed the pulley and I am ready to do as the eper image shows but I cannot see how you would get it out as there is so many pipes, wires etc in the way unless I bring it down but there are still multiple parts in the way.

Hi,

Did you have any luck finding any more information on the JTD engine?

Cheers

Lee

Hey lee, the Fiat manuals I have just say unavailable at time of print. Even my hard copy doesnt go into detail.

Removing the 1.8 petrol powersteering pump is quite involved though, you have to remove the engine steady bar and bracket that is fitted on the drivers side strut tower and then an alternator bracket.

Do you have any images of this?

I can't believe that something so close to the top of the engine is so difficult to remove.

Thanks

Lee

Yeah, ive done it pdf here just two pages and on the 1747 you also have to remove a bracket from the block to inlet manifold;

Many thanks.

Managed to get the pump out in the end (had to remove the fuel filter - was replacing it anyway).

Now just need to get a matching replacement and (fingers crossed) it should go back in as it came out.

Once again thanks for the info.
