I've just registered and I would like to say hello to all on Fiatforum.
I've been taking good care of my Fiat Brava 1.4 12V -1998 for a couple of years now. Recently I began to wonder if it was possible to remap my Bravas' ECU. A video on Youtube gave me the idea. watch?v=4G7K9Lk4EU0
The video shows a guy rewriting a 24C02 EEPROM memory chip and turning the ECUs' immobiliser off.
So I decided to buy another ECU from ebay, in case something goes wrong. I also bought EEPROM USB programmer and managed to edit the immobiliser data in my backup ECU. At first attempt trying to start engine the CODE light was on, which indicated that immobiliser was still on.

Anyway, I'm still wondering if it is possible to remap or just "fine tune" the engine data like ignition timing? I've found out that all the data of the ECU is stored in a 87C510 chip manufactured by Texas Instruments, TMS87C510. It might be little odd to ask such a thing on a Fiat forum, but does anyone have a clue if the 87C510 chip could be replaced by a EEPROM chip using adapter or some other component? I think I might be the only one on this planet thinking about remapping this specific car :D. There are only a couple cases where people ask about the chip, but I think no-one has really managed to tune one. The chip has been used in a volkswagen polo as far as I know.

Thank you for any reply!

Welcome to the forum CimiPimi! (y)
Here is the link you posted

First thanks for the interesting video link, I had a 1.4 but never opened the ECU. I learnt a lot about ECU's just from the video.

This video I found has a different ECU but it seems they use an adaptor to avoid desoldering the chip.

Good luck with your project. Have you thought about using an aftermarket ECU? A lot of members here use megasquirt ECU's

Thank you for your post Adrian Bravo.

In the end I managed to start the engine with my "extra ECU" which I reprogrammed with the following code:

00 FF 00 F7 08 F7 FF 00 - FF 08 F7 08 00 FF 00 FF
F7 08 F7 FF 00 FF A3 5C - A3 96 69 96 FF FF FF FF
FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF - FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF
FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF - FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF
FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF - FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF
FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF - FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF
FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF - FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF
FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF - FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF
FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF - FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF
FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF - FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF
FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF - FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF
FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF - FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF
FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF - FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF
FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF - FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF
FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF - FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF
A5 FF FF FF FF FF FF FF - FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF

With that code, the immobiliser can be disabled quite easily. There was another code, which was claimed to disable the immobiliser but it never worked with me. The code I mentioned does the job.
But the immobiliser wasn't the main reason I'm still writing a new post. I found a Russian forum (carhelp.info/forums/showthread.php? t=14230 ) with information about the 87C510 EPROM chip. Some guy claims that the 87C510 can be replaced with a 27C512. Is there anyone that knows something about micro chips or memory chips? I'm desperately still trying to look a EEPROM or flash memory chip to replace the EPROM one. Thank you for any help!
