I've just registered and I would like to say hello to all on Fiatforum.
I've been taking good care of my Fiat Brava 1.4 12V -1998 for a couple of years now. Recently I began to wonder if it was possible to remap my Bravas' ECU. A video on Youtube gave me the idea. watch?v=4G7K9Lk4EU0
The video shows a guy rewriting a 24C02 EEPROM memory chip and turning the ECUs' immobiliser off.
So I decided to buy another ECU from ebay, in case something goes wrong. I also bought EEPROM USB programmer and managed to edit the immobiliser data in my backup ECU. At first attempt trying to start engine the CODE light was on, which indicated that immobiliser was still on.
Anyway, I'm still wondering if it is possible to remap or just "fine tune" the engine data like ignition timing? I've found out that all the data of the ECU is stored in a 87C510 chip manufactured by Texas Instruments, TMS87C510. It might be little odd to ask such a thing on a Fiat forum, but does anyone have a clue if the 87C510 chip could be replaced by a EEPROM chip using adapter or some other component? I think I might be the only one on this planet thinking about remapping this specific car . There are only a couple cases where people ask about the chip, but I think no-one has really managed to tune one. The chip has been used in a volkswagen polo as far as I know.
Thank you for any reply!
