As the title says, i am having some problems finding out where the temperatur sensor is located on my car.

It's from 1996 , its a 1.4 SX model.

The main problem is , the car is swallowing more gas than it should, so its either the lambda probe or the temp. sensor, ill start with the cheapest one first, since also inside on the dash board even though i know the car is warm and heat is comming in, the temp. meter doesn't move above C which basicly is a couple of centimeters above the point when the car is turned off.

If I'm not mistaken (if I am please correct me) ....
On the engine head, under the coil pack, there are 2 temperature sensors..
-one for the ECU witch is on the thermostat housing(this one has some blue plastic);
- right next to it, on the engine head is the sensor for the dash bord gauge;

the plastic head can either be black or blue , guess i depends on from which company i buy it here in Denmark, and finding out where this tricky one is placed at, thats a good question, the thing, the dashboard inside the car moves a little but only a little, and when i look for temperature sensors for this car, there is only 1 and thats the one, so basicly just need to find out where its located and replace it, picking up a new one tomorrow morning.

On the 1.4 1370cc 12valve there are two water temperature sensors. The red arrow shows the sensor that gives a signal to the dashboard needle. It has a single pin connection and goes stright into the cylinder head. The blue arrow shows the ECU's temperature sensor that is fixed into the thermostat housing. This sensor is normaly blue on the 1370cc engine and it has two pins.

If the reading on your dashboard is the same temperature reading the ECU sensor gets ie low then it is probably a fault with the cooling system. ie pump, blockage, trapped air, faulty thermostat leaks etc

If the dash sensor is faulty and giving a bad/low reading then you probably have another fault somewhere else that is reducing your fuel consumption.

To sum up on the 1370 the dashboard sensor is not linked to the ecu in any way and the ecu sensor is not linked to the dash board in any way.

Thanks for the info, greatly appreciated, well the thing with the Fiat and when it consumes the amount of fuel it does, it is most one of two things, the lambda probe and the temperatur sensor/feeler , the sensor is way cheaper since it costs 129,- dkk which is roughly 15£ or so, while a new lambda probe is about 1150,- dkk, about 145£ ,not something i can afford to replace right now.

And for this specific model, i only have the blue one , i don't have 2 different temperature sensors / feelers, not for the model i have, i checked with my local spare part suppliers, 2 of them to be precise, there is only the blue one as goes for sensors anyhow and if it was the thermostat that didnt work, well then the car would overheat and the engine would eventually go poof, but thats not the case since the fan starts, the dashboard sensor moves, but not alot , were talking a couple of centimeters at the most.

I might be wrong, but i will definitly look at it tomorrow at daytime when i have some more light to do with, i take their located on the right side of the engine, my skills as a mechanic is ****ty at best, but my usual mechanic has very little free time on his hands atm so i have to do it my self , this i should be able to do anyhow.

if the engine reaches optimum operating temperature very hard( slow) then your thermostat could be stuck opened.

check if thermostat is not working:
-in the morning with cold engine
-find the hose that goes from the thermostat to the radiator
-start engine
-let engine run for 2-3 minutes at idle
-feel the thermostat-to-radiator hose with your hand
+if the hose is hot but the engine temperature is way below the middle of the gauge then the thermostat is bad.
+if it is still cold it might be ok.

When the radiator fan comes on, is the gauge close to the middle???????

The gauge on the dashboard never goes more than a couple of centimeters above the C

And the car doesn't take a long time to heat up in the cold mornings, so i don't think there is anything wrong with the thermostat.

Still think its the sensor thats faulty but i will check it all today.

As the title says, i am having some problems finding out where the temperature sensor is located on my car.

My problem is when the car is turned "on" the temp.meter only move a couple of centimeters and does not move any longer when the car is moving.
