At about 4000 revs, there is a horrible whining/rattling noise from the box directly under the gear stick (is this the catalitic converter)? This starts at approx 70mph and then stops once at about 75mph. Is this normal?

Can it be repaired or is it likely it will have to be replaced? If so what is the likely cost?
