Technical Bravo 1.6 16v cam belt question...

normally every 72k/or 5yrs...i recently changed mine just over a month ago, but mine done only 60k+...its always worth getting cam belts changed 5-10k before the interval...not every cambelt will go in the same time or miles :)

a few tips for the cambelt change.. luckily no other belt has to come off..or as far as i remember, the bottom pulley, has a 36mm nut..which is a beast to undo. so make sure you have some good tools to undo it! and im sure you know, remember to mark the verniers where the lines are on the cambelt cover, and jobs a good'un sometimes the verniers will shift slightly when you put the cambelt on, so i held them together with mole grips, so its perfectly timed in the right position :)

well good luck with the change

To change the cambelt on the 1.6 you do need to remove the belts for the waterpump and power-steering pump afaik. (but this should be relatively straight forward job)

When it comes to cam-belts, better safe then sorry. When in doubt, replace.

I've had mine done recently as I had no idea when it was last changed. But due to all the markings around the engine bay I suspect it was about 7 years ago, so I had the belt changed just to be sure. The belt itself looked almost new, but the tensioner had a noticable tick when rotating it, meaning the bearings were on the way out) If you are going to change the belt, I recommend also changing the waterpump and auxiliary belts while you've got everything off. It's not that expensive but it means you don't have to take everything back off when the pump goes.
