Hello everybody

I'm probably your newest member and come here with a big problem. I live in Bucharest (RO) , where second hand cars are usually 2000euros over what they'd cost in western europe. I hope to soon have around 4800 euros (via bank loan) to spend on a used car and i hope i can make the right decision.
I've been looking at cars such as the 1996 Opel Astra Caravan , 1996 VW Golf , 1999 Skoda Felicia , 1998 Daewoo Nubira and of course a 1997 Fiat Brava. I'm not here to discuss any of the other models , just the 97 Brava. I figure you guys can shed some light on the issue. Everybody here in romania , that i've asked about the Brava , said that its not a reliable car (they actually warned me to NOT BUY IT!) and that is why its very rare to see one in romania. And its true that you dont really see many Brava's here. What i need to know is if its true , if it really isn't a good buy for a person who's looking for a car (for himself) , that doesn't eat up more than 10l/100km of fuel , and its not expensive to own , and spare parts don't cost too much...in other words reliable! I'm really hoping you can tell me its a good choice because i consider the Fiat Brava to be a BEAUTIFUL car and I'd love it. However i'm not exactly rich enough to afford having my car break down often. (n)

If you could help me and tell me what i need to know about the Brava in all honesty , i will definately appreciate it :)
Thanks

You get good and bad in any make....
What you have to ask yourself is
where can I get parts for it,
are they cheap and easily avalible,
Are you mechanicaly minded or will you get some one to look after it, if you need some one; where are they and are they exspensive to use.
every time I look to buy a car I ask these questions.
With Fiat Bravo/a it seems to be dodgey electrics and the 1.4 engine you have watch out for, but if you already know this and still buy the car as you like the look of it, well you know what you have let yourself in for, but what problems have the Skoda, Daewoo even VW are far from trouble free, it's a personal choice I own a Bravo and a Renault Coupe, both phase 2 cars both apparantly not worth the trouble yet nither have let me down, Fiat has wobbly tickover sometimes up/down and has just decided it's interior light will no longer work?? Renault nothing.. spot on not missed a beat yet both cars are slaged off by every one you meet.
It will all hang on price of parts and repair, as you must have done the insurance thing already for all of them, happy hunting
