Hi,

Went into mechanics weds to have Cam carrier/ rocker cover gaskets changed on my Fiat 1.6 petrol 100 sx T reg. Dropped it off as a lovely smooth quiet runner. Went to pick it up and the noise comng off the engine was unbeleivable..seemed to be coming from the belt assembly.

So took it back thursday got it back thurs afternoon.Noise level down but now seems to be misfire on the engine also the engine itelf seems to be vibrating and this can be felt from inside the car when in neutral.. What to do? Grate full for any help:worship:

Thanks

take it back!. dont take it away till its running how YOU want it.

dont accept any s**t from them. if its not right its not right and they are liable.

Hi,

Update..will be taking it back tomoro (17/3). Looks like one of the things they will do to it will be to put it on a diagnostic. Being thick here but surely misfire and vibrating engine wont show up on diagnostic?

If my efforts to get them to put right, what they made wrong to begin with fail...not good at confrontation!:bang:, does anyone know of a specialist fiat garage in NW region of UK that would look at a 99 Bravo with a degree of competence?

Thanks for all help:worship:

Hi Folks,

Pleading for help with this now :worship: 3rd time to the mechanic - still no change. Engine still vibrating and a steady "chug chug chug" coming from the exhaust which wasnt there when I dropped the car off (to originally have a new cam carrier gasket put on).

What is the most likely mechanical cause of this?

Thanks in advance....

tbh with you mate without a better discription it could be anything.

hows it drive? when does it vibrate???ideling ect?? what does it do under load up hills? is it there when warm/cold? it it making any noise in the engine bay? and where from???

cheers :-~)

yeh sorry..mechanic swore blind not the timing which he said he checked twice. Steady "chug chug chug " noise even when warmed up coming from the exhaust. Metalic clicking noise coming from the top of the inlet manifold. Serious vibration coming off the engine itself which can be fealt from inside the car. All of this can be fealt when the car is in neatral. No real loss of power during drive, but now since work was done on it, a very very lumpy runner. None of this was there before.. now the car sounds more like a diesel than a petrol...

And this used to be such a smooth quiet runner...?!

bit unsure tbh, how are your engine mounts? is their any knocking or just vibrating?

does the vibrating smooth out higher up the revs?

have you got enough oil? sounds like the metalic noise could be lack of oil on the cam or 'pinking' of the petrol (which would be spark plugs or timing :-( )

Cheers for the help mate:worship: In checking the spark plugs noticed no1 ht lead was ripped at end. Replaced that and running a lot smoother now, vibration down and seems more in time. Still getting noise from the top of the inlet manifold but once cool Il double check oil.

Thanks again:)

no worries. defo pinking then, noise wise it may need fresh oil or a wearing bearing. keep a eye on it, but you said inlett dunno where in the inlet its coming from?

Cheers...cant tell exactly where noise is coming from on inlet manifold, changed oil and filter over christmas and oil level seems right..hmmm...
