Fiat Brava Runs rough

Hi i have a fiat brava 1.4 sx. There are some problems with it that i really cant work out. I dont want to go spending loads of money if its something simple. The car starts absolutly fine first time, But then after a while (10 miles aprox) it starts to run really rough. like its going to stall. I dont know what it could be. I Dont have any error lights and its got water, oil, petrol. Can you guys help

Re: Fiat Brava Runs rough

I recommend to measure resistance of all ignition coil circuits. You can also test lambda resistance and try to disconnect it to see if car runs better.

Ok iv noticed when i start it lots of white smoke and oil looking stuff out of the exhaust, also im getting a red light on dashboard, like a spraying light. does this help

Re: Fiat Brava Runs rough

The red light on the dash shows the injection system is not happy.

Once the car is warm as misfiring, open the bonet in the dark and look for any stray sparks around the coil and spark plug areas.

If possible, use an insulated plier set and remove and refit each plug lead in turn, noting which make no difference to the running of the car.

Cheers

D

Re: Fiat Brava Runs rough

i had the same trouble after a lot of different advice an old time fiat mechanic checked the coil and condemed it, a new one from a local motor factors fixed it and now runs perfect

Hi i have a problem with my fiat brava 1.4sx. it starts up fine but the problem is that after a few miles the engine runs rough and cuts out. Also the light looking like a spray comes on every so often. There was a lot of white smoke coming out of the exhaust as well as a black liquid, not much and it stoped. What could this be? i dont want to go spending loads of money on lambda sensor or crankshaft sensor if its not that. HELP PLEASE

:bang: :idea::bang:

The cheapest is to connect with ECU tester. I dont recommend buying sensors until you are sure, in other case it is endless story

The light thats looks like a spray symbol is the engine management light, the cars ECU knows there is an error and you can have the error read to find the exact problem, it costs about £25.

Check your oil and water levels and condition, if they are mixing or dropped quickly your problem might be serious, check and clean as many electrical contacts as you can including the earth points and battery terminals. If they seem alright I think to save money your best option would be the most direct, have the ecu errors read and replace the part at fault. After that If the engine keeps producing smoke keep a close watch on fluid levels and check compression.

Re: Fiat Brava Runs rough

Got the exact same issue with a bravo 1.4sx tried new leads plugs and new coil, still playing up (n)
If i find anything of use that cures it will let you know, im thinking it could be the idle air solenoid, should try yours too see if you have the same results, its just at the back of the carb, take the plug out after it starts running rough and if the revs go back up to something slightly normal its same as what mines doing, as soon as i unplug it the revs go back up, would you say that would be a sign of the IAS on the way out? its a big spend of £100 to find out its something else lol!

Help needed rpm sensor

Hi here is my problem as listed previously my car starts and then stalls after its warmed up. People on here told me its the rpm sensor so i go and buy a second hand one and now the car wont start. Turns over and doesnt fire up, i managed to get it started and then it died helpppppp

Re: Help needed rpm sensor

who mounted that sensor?
is the distance between the sensor and the wheel correct? try making it bti smaller.

if the car started before you changed the crank sensor then in my opinion the
the faulty part /system is clear: CRACK SENSOR + WIRES to ECU

Re: Help needed rpm sensor

Well all it is is a torx bolt so how can you adjust how close it is? do you have to loosen the bolt or something? im really confused. the sensor goes in the whole and the bolt goes where i unscrewed it from?

FOR everyone that nose about bravas HELP

CAN SOME ONE HELP ME PLEASE, IV NOT HAD A DECENT REPLY YET? I KNOW THERES SOMEONE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM OR SOMEONE WHO HAS HAD THE PROBLEM,

FIRST OF ALL THE CAR STARTED FINE!!
BUT THE PROBLEM WAS AFTER IT GOT WARM (20 MILES OR SO) IT WOULD STALL. (n) WHEN I POSTED A FORUM THEY SAID IT COULD BE RPM SENSOR, SO I BUY ONE AND CHANGE THAT BUT WHEN I WAS RUNNING THE CAR THE FUEL RUN OUT :( SO I BROUGHT SOME MORE FUEL AND IT STARTED AGAIN OF JUMP LEADS, PROBLEM WAS IT CUT OUT AND WONT START NOW. IV CHANGED BACK TO OLD RPM SENSOR THINKING IT WAS THE OTHER ONE BUT IM CONFUSED. ALSO DID RUN A BIT RICH BUT COULD THIS BE LINKED. MAYBE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR???

PLEASE HELP ME I DONT KNOW MUCH ABOUT THESE BUT IF SOME ONE COULD HELP ID BE THANKFULL. THERES A SPARK AND FUEL SO IM CONFUSED.. SOMEONE TOLD ME THAT HAVE I GOT THE RIGHT DISTANCE BETWEEN RPM SENSOR BUT ALL IT IS, IS A TORX SCREW AND DONE ISNT IT????

HELP ME PLZZZ:yum: ID BE VERY GREATFULL

Re: FOR everyone that nose about bravas HELP

The crank sensor on the 1.4 is not physicaly adjustable so if its screwed in properly you will not have any gapping issues. The bolt is a ribe bolt not a Torx bolt by the way.

I agree with fiat37 if the ECU error light is showing you should ask a garage to check what error it is. This will be the cheapest and fastest option.

Have you done basic cleaning and checks on the wiring?

hi yes iv checked everything? Could it be the coolant temp sensor? I dont want to take it to the garage because that light comes on when it wants to and not permanant so ill be paying them to say nothing is wrong. Id rather use everyones help on here to fix the problem. I just went out to start it and it started and cut out straight away, the other day it was running fine but stalling after 20miles or so? Do you have anything on this

Most errors are stored in the ECU for a long time so you would probably get a message. Which crank sensor is fitted to your car now? the old one or the new one?

I had faulty throttle poteniometer it made my car just cut out randomly sometimes from cold sometimes after a few miles but those parts cost around £700 new. See;
https://www.fiatforum.com/bravo-bra...meter-position-sensor.html?highlight=throttle

If its just cutting out, I would look at;
Fuel problem. Its quality and its supply to the injector.
Wiring Problem/earth problem.
Injector.
Crank Sensor.
Throttle Poteniometer (from experience)
Wayyyy down at the bottom faulty ECU (very unlikely).

i fitted the old one back on just incase the new one was faulty as it wouldnt start with it on. I got it from the breakers. I can get the whole throttle body for 25 from the scrap yard. Do you think i should, thats including injectors and everything on it?when i phoned fiat they told me that it is proberly the choke sticking or semmi blocked fuel jet? Could that be right

Forgot to add idle control motor to my list;
