Calling all good fiat mechanics, after changing head gasket getting head skimmed, replacing cambelt and tensioner. The big day arrived, the engine started first time, but is reving up and down high on its own, with a lot of white smoke. I expecting some as water had entered the engine. But not this much its seems the choke is stuck on or something. The engine sounds fine apart from this problem. Any idea what this could be, I have checked all connections, and everything is back to normal. I was thinking the Idle air control stepper valve or the
Throttle Potentiometer Sensor as they are known.
Thanks

Hi, just want to thank all you guys for your help, had 56 people look at my problem and not one reply, fantastic
cheers

why was the hg swapped? coolant leak into the piston?

sounds like there is antifreeze in there as that is the only thing to burn white! oil wuold be blue and water would just be normal mist not smoke.

are you sure the HG was the right way up? a oil way/water way may be blocked.

tps may be at fault for the irratic idol mabee try reseting the ecu first

Thanks guys solved problem now, left servo pipe off by mistake. Still having quite a bit of smoke but I hope this will clear up. As originally the car had a blown head gasket, severe and was leaking down 2 pots and yes probably burning excess antifreeze off. Plus car has been standing well over 6 months. So probably entered exhaust system too.:) Will change oil again and hopefully this will clear it all up.
Cheers

Hi, hope yours is diferent to mine, but I bought my Brava with the head off, as last owner 'gave up'. I too had the head skimmed and allegedly pressure tested, but now after just 3k miles, head gasket gone, (or head cracked possibly), number three pot got lots coolant in, number two also got some in, and lots of it burning off in the exhaust. Now I reckon either the guys didn't pressure test the head properly, our maybe I have a problem on the block, liner dropped or something...all soon to be investigated. Hope yours proves to be more successful.

myn did that when i first had my bravo its was the stepper motor and had to be plugged in and cost around 90 pund i think.
