Got a problem with my Bravo 1.2 16v. It wouldn't start this morning. Sounded like it was a flat battery but have tried a few batteries and still no luck. It tries to start but doesn't fire up. Did notice the coolant was very pressurised and one spark plug was letting fuel through to the HT leads. Have cleaned and refitted this and still no luck.

Any advice before i start spending to much money replacing parts :)

I think the problem is not it being bad news, more a case of noone having anything useful to say.

The coolant circuit should be pressurized as its a pressurized system. I find it rather strange there is fuel getting past a sparkplug.

Have you checked your timing belt? Are all cylinders getting fuel? (Are the sparkplugs wet?) Have you checked the earthing connections? Have you checked if all plugs are sparking?

Don't know what the problem was with it not starting but have now got it started. Just heated up the spark plugs over a flame put them back into the car and first turn of the key it started :)

OK back to this lovely car. Got it started ok yesturday and it was driving very well. Until I tried to start it this morning and nothing again :(

There is oil in the first spark plug well which to me sounds like the rocker cam cover gasket but i've looked on this site and google searched it and my engine sounds like it doesn't have a rocker cover ????

I've been on the europarts site and they list a rocker cover gasket for my reg???

So my questions are does this sound like a rocker cover gasket problem and does my engine have a rocker cover ????

I'm not certain of this, but the 1.2 may not have rockers. Sometimes the cams act directly on the valves, as in most motorcycle engines.

So in that case you would have a cam cover which is basically the same thing.

Your non-starting problem might be a faulty crank position sensor. It seems this is not entirely unusual on Fiats. I've just taken delivery of one for my JTD which has been refusing to start since tuesday.

Your non starting issue could be the crank sensor or bad coil pack, if you have changed the ht leads and spark plugs already that would be my next thing to look at, even if its taking the crank sensor out and giving it a clean to see if it helps.

Still having my doubts about this one guys. Can someone please advise me 100% that i can take the cam/rocker cover off without disturbing the cambelt. I don't want to be disturbing the cams or belt when i change the gasket.

The starting issue i believe is the oil soaking the plug as on two occasions now i've removed the plugs and heated them up then put them back in and the car started first time.

You have to take the extention off to change the gasket, which means taking off the belt. Is oil getting in the plug bores?

Well Guys

This car has been nothing but a pain in the backside, and is going on record as the shortest car I have ever owned.. I sharn't be buying another Fiat in a hurry.

Thanks to the guys on here that have bothered to reply and offer advise, I am very greatful.. as for others that was no help what so ever.. shame on you!!!
As for being an official Fiat forum.. this has been blimming useless.. to those of us with no clue.

So Now Brenda the Bravo can go to a new home...and I'll buy a reliable car, that doesn't let me down, unlike this piece of italian cr*p
