I own a 1996 Fiat Brava 1.4S 12V
Does anyone know what is the cause of the Fuel Injection light coming on the instrument panel after say 3 or 4 miles. The car is doing about 20 mpg. I have recently changed the ECU and fuel injection filter but it is still coming on.
thanks

Is your engine coming up to temperature? If it's not, the t'stat may be stuck open. This happened to my 1.4S. What happens is that the engine doesn't warm up properly which means that the ECU is not seeing a signal that it expects from the water temp sensor that will allow it to operate in the correct part of its "map". It then operates in emergency mode, get you home mode (hence the warning light), and this is likely to increase your fuel consumption too.

I replaced my t'stat (an easy job) and this has fixed that particular problem. Yours may have the same thermostat that mine had that had a plastic body that had just broken and left it wide open. The new one is all metal! Methinks they had a problem with the original design.

Hope this helps, good luck.

Thanks a million,
car temp gauge always stays at extreme left of the dial, never moves until I am stuck in traffic. This happened first when car overheated (leak in radiator), stat must have stuck open after this.
Buying a new one today.
Thanks again

Light was on car for a while and then the car wouldn't start.
I was advised to bring the car to a main Fiat dealer to have the car tested on computer, I was to be charged €30 for this (or so I thought).
It turned out that it took them 3.5 hours labour (€210 to find out that the petrol pump was gone and they told me that the ECU was also gone ( these would have cost €200 for petrol pump and €600 for the ECU ex VAT and probably at least 4 hours labour €240). I got the car towed out of there fairly quickly I can tell you.
Ended up I got a petrol pump and ECU for €190 in scrap yard and my Bruv in Law fitted them for me. Car never went as well, but the red injector light is still on. Think it may be solved now......
Thanks
