i never did get to the bottom of mine... checked the sunroof with a hose and its defo not leaking, checked behind the panel and around the pollen filter and it all looks ok, just seems to drip out from behind the dash onto the plastic kick trim near the door, not loads tbh but dont know where its from :S
Hi,
Have a 2000 Brava and had this problem a couple of years ago, drivers footwell full of water when raining. Tested sun roof with hose saw no leak, clean drain holes and replaced sunroof rubber, still not fixed.
Decided to investigate more, removed plastic trim right side in drivers footwell (remove door seal to get access). Behind wires on metal frame was wet, moved futher up and and also found damp behind the drivers trim. Put hand up to feel under the roof liner and low and behold it was damp???
Next removed the roof liner and found damp patch from sunroof to above drivers head on inside of liner, also mould staring to grow nasty...
Also lots of condensation on inside of roof.
Conclusion water coming in sunroof and running along roof liner over driver head and down along column and behind plastis trim to Fill thw footwell". Yip found the problem!!
The solution: Had to remove the whole sunroof chassis from roof (remove bolts) and drop down. You may need two people to remove as it is heavy. There is a procedure here or on the web with pics on how to remove sunroof. Cleaned and dried the sunroof chassis and every place where the sunroof chassis made contact with the roof and used silicone (lots and lots, to be extra sure) to make a water proof seal between the chassis and the roof. Then bolted everything back up and left to dry.
Have had a dry car ever since, perfectly dry feet for the last couple of years...
The problem: Rain especially driving rain forces its way through sunroof seal and does not drop down onto sunroof chasis and flow out the drain holes as it is supposed to. Instead it seeps between the roof and sunroof chasis and along the roof and eventual drops onto the liner and runs along the curved contour toward the drivers column and then down to the footwell.
Some advise, will take a couple of hours to do, so either do it inside a garage or pick a dry day to attempt it. Also may need two people when lowering sunroof chasis. I also put some insulation between the liner and the roof to help prevent future condensation, just me being extra cautious though...
Sorry for being long winded but this solved my problem, hope it is of some help...
Cheers,
Leo.
