Hi All!

First a bit of history, bear with me.....

About 12 months ago I took my Bravo off the road as it was having clutch issues, I finally got it sorted and went to put it back on the road the other day but.............I lost the only key I had (yeah I know I should have had spare keys). Anyway, I bought an ECU, Red key, Immobiliser, Transponder ring and a full set of locks from a guy breaking another HGT - installed them and now the beast is back on the road and working perfect.

However, tonight whilst digging out the christmas decs, I find the original key. This means that I now have an ECU 'set' with one blue remote key and one full ECU 'set' with one red key so no RCL.

I know this subject has been done to death on here and other forums but this is a bit of a unique situation! Can anyone with a bit of experience of the keys/ecu thing give me an idea of what I could do to end up with a full set of keys and my RCL back as it's a bit of a pain without it (actually I'm just lazy and can't be arsed with unlocking doors with a key!!)

Any suggestions would be appreciated,

Thanks

Lee

Hi Lee
Does your blue remote key have a button on for the RCL? If so what you need is the four digit RCL/Alarm code, the one original to your car. ie; 1.2.3.4. its normaly on a small slip of paper attached to a key. You have to push the courtesy light button to key in that code then push the key and the button toghether and it will be synced up.

Let me know if you want the instructions.

Other options; You might be lucky enough to find a Meta M20 remote central locking kit, its just a relay with a reciever built in and two fobs. Or an aftermarket remote central locking kit.

Yeah I've got the blue key with the RCL button, still not sure which ECU/Key to run with though.

On the one hand I've got an ECU with one red key but no RCL and on the other I have got an ECU with one blue key and RCL. :bang:

What I would ideally like to end up with is One red key, one RCL blue key and one spare blue key.

Like the sound of the Meta, I've seen them before but didn't think of going down that route, hmmm................

I assume it would be possible to reprogram a blue key to work for the other ECU? Dunno how the RCL system works though.

Unfortunately the unlock code can only be obtained from the info in the receiver, that can take some effort if you dont have the expertise. After that you would need to go through locks and parts swapping, so quite a lot of effort. May be simpler to fit an aftermarket remote kit.
Tony.

Thanks for the responses guys, I've now got hold of a meta relay with the fobs and that seems to have nearly got me to where I want to be!

Now all I need to do is get down the locksmiths and get a couple of spare keys cut. I've decided to just glue the chip into the transponder ring housing so I don't have to put up with fiats stoopid key system anymore!

Its a good system. Doing that may void your insurance since your car no longer has an immobiliser, you should probably tell your insurance your car does not have an immobiliser anymore.

It's a good system until it goes wrong and leaves you stranded 40 miles from home. Twice.

The insurance company already know about the lack of immobiliser as I removed the alarm last year and thought the immobiliser was part of that. Obviously it wasn't but it only put my premium up by £22 so I'm not too fussed!

Cant quite see the logic there, if you are glueing the transponder into the car, you are relying on the "stoopid key system" to allow the engine to fire up, so everything needs to be in perfect order. Accepting that, you may as well utilise all the anti-theft facilities of the system.

Tony,

I think I had just had enough when I typed that!!! In the past week I've broken an engine mount which caused the n/s driveshaft to screw up the seal and dump all my gb fluid, a frozen handbrake cable and a shot thermostat. It's slowly taking it's toll!!!!

I'm concerned that I'm using the red key on a daily basis, which according to other threads on here is a bad thing? Obviously only having the one key is dodgy but what do I do about getting two more blue keys? Do I just go and get timpsons to copy the red one and then use the meta for the rcl? Or do I go for it and get the code read from the receiver so as to end up with a full set of keys, with code?

As always, advice is appreciated even if I have an 'I hate Fiat' day and it doesnt seem like it!

Dave,

I changed the batteries in the key the other night and the led lights up nice and bright but just isn't paired with the car anymore. I have read several views as to wether disconnecting the car battery for any length of time has an effect on the 'pairing' but there are so many views it's difficult to make sense of them all!

Cheers guys

Lee

I can see how its getting you down!
First check that the red is indeed a master key. Turn it on twice and the key code light should stay off i.e. every other turn it goes off then on.
If its the master then have 2 keys cut, but have the locksmith enter by hand the transponder values. I've given you 2 here which you could use.

If the red key is not a master, just get two copies

Thanks Tony,

Just chiseled the car out of it's ice suit and the code light stays on every other turn so looks like it is a master key! I'll head to the locksmiths tomorrow and get 2 keys cut and get them to input the two codes you posted. Do I then need to load these keys into the immobilizer? I think I've found the sequence for doing it on here before, I'll go hunting!!

Thanks again,

Lee
