now the car is still parked up at the moment but iv noticed a water sloshing noise from the dash? last time i looked up this problem i found something about possible air in the cooling system,

reason i post is i need to put fresh antifreeze in anyway (i say fresh need to make sure it has some)

still wont be moving it for a week or two but rather than bleed the rad can i fill the water tank and carfully let some air out of the cap ??

if not can someone please post a picture of the bleeding nipples on the rad thanks

What engine? Yep Sounds like you need to try and bleed it properly. When you refill the radiator you should turn the cabin heater knob to max. Tell us what engine you have and if you have aircon and we can tell you where the bleed screws are.

It could be that the drainage holes under the bonet are cloged and water is traped, and moving around when you drive. But this is the case if the sound comes from the left or right side of the dash, not the central console.

its a 1.2 sx formula year 2000

would the drainage hole be visable? or under the scuttle panel?

i suspect if there was water trapped it may have been frozen this morning tho i still hear it move. how easy are they to check and unblock

(forgive as i cant go look now as i have the car stored a few miles away hence some questions im posting seem a bit simple)
,

regarding bleeding the system i let the car warm up today and let the pressure out of the tank (bottle to the right of the radiator at the front)

and it maybe just me but it helped a little "i think:hm:"

iv took a picture of what looks like could be a plastic cap/nipple to bleed the rad?? or maybe its the screw under but that looks like a mount

and my final question on this subject is how far to fill the water bottle/tank i didnt notice a max/min level (I didnt look very hard if im honest had to go) or should i just brim it?

any pics of you own for refrence with answer would help if possible.

oh i dont think it has aircon and iv yet to try the hearter on full i will read this post when i go back over tommorow to remmind me,

should the heater setting effect the sloshing if indeed it is trapped air??

There are loads of posts on this if you look.

I've got the same car. You should really be looking to drain and replace the coolant completely, it's a consumable item. This should help avoid internal corrosion and also possible head gasket failure.

Practise bleeding and topping up before you redo the whole thing properly.

The plastic plug you showed is the rad bleed valve, with the engine running and warm, and heater on, unscrew this plug and fill / wait till water comes out.

I can't remember if there's a second drain plug near to the thermostat, remove the plastic engine cover to look. If it's there, bleed this next.

Finally there are 2 hoses at the back of the engine going to and from the heater, with plastic drain plugs on. bleed the straight one first, and finally the one with the extension.

Do not fill the expansion tank, the correct level is low down and very hard to see.

You should probably flush the system before refilling with new antifreeze (blue I think) at 50% dilution.
