Bravo Stereo

Ever since I got my aftermarket stereo installed at Halfords, it has never ever saved anything once the engine is turned off.
I.e. radio stations, cd positions, time etc. All resets.

Is there an easy way/any way to fix this?

Ta

Aaron

Re: Bravo Stereo

There is.
It's probably that the memory wire( 12v with the ignition on and off)
is not linked to the correct pin at the stereo input.
use a multimeter mesure eache whire until you know what each wire does.
then look at the stereo it often has a schematic of the wires on it.

Re: Bravo Stereo

This is a common fault, they have the 12 volt permanent live feed and the 12 volt ignition switched feed swapped over. If they have used an interface lead you will normally see that the red and yellow wires have a bullet connector in the middle of them, unplug the red and yellow and swap them over, your problem will be resolved

Re: Bravo Stereo

This is how i solved it in the past on my old Astra....but alas no such connectors exist on this though.
That info should help me though if i cross reference it to BOO info.

as above, swap the red and yellow wires round on your stereo and all will be sorted

Re: Bravo Stereo

Ok nipped and had a look at stereo....got confused.

Where my stereo said there should be a yellow wire, its orange. Ill put up a couple of pictures when they finish uploading..

As you can see below...where stereo says battery feed should be(yellow wire slot 4), the wire is orange.
And the yellow wire is under Dimmer(pink)
Red wire is where the ignition feed is supposed to be in slot 7

Cable power connector

Cable plan on top of stereo

EDIT: Power connections are ordered from top to bottom like this....

1
2
4
5
6
7
8

Any help appreciated....dont wanna go swapping the live feed and ignition feed, or what i think is them, and blowing stuff up...

Re: Bravo Stereo

use a multimeter to check for power with the ignition on and off, should tell you which wire is which.

Re: Bravo Stereo

Good news folks!

Seeing as I've just ordered myself a shiny beautiful Kenwood Head Unit, i figured, 'What the hell?' and swapped over the two wires that were supposedly 'live feed' and 'ignition feed', not caring if my current unit blew up....

Using a hair clip-come-pin-remover i managed to get the job done.

I now have Radio 1 tuned into Channel 1 and it stays put

Thanks for all the help on that.

However. I'm still unable to have the unit on when engine/ignition is off. Is there a way around this or am i stuck like that?

Re: Bravo Stereo

The power to the unit is probably cut when the ignition is off. I have the same "problem". (You might be able to get around this by wiring the ignition pin directly to the 12 volt constant wire. Just remember this means the radio is ALWAYS on and will drain your battery after a while)

Re: Bravo Stereo

Yeah. I know its doable. Ive seen cars that can turn the stereo on without the ignition on, obviously if done for length of time itll kill the battery, but its handy for certain situations.

Just wondered if it was possible.

Re: Bravo Stereo

the aorange wire is the memory wire as you call it,the yellow wire on your stereo should go there permenant live.(i think lol)

but as you say above about wanting the stereo on without the car being on.I have been on the phone for ages with a fellow friend about this,as once the ignition is on you are using all your car's battery, the coils take alot of power once on.The way around this would be to keep the wires swapped around and pull the pins out of the stereo plug and match them up so you have a permanat feed.to which the yellow wire should go to the orange wire. You need something very thin to get inside the connecting pins,i.e tweezers or a match and push down on the release bit in order for the pin to come out,you cant just pull them out.
Once you have it on permenantly, you either switch it off everytime its not in use or simply remove the faceplate

need to do this to mine at somepoint

Mike

Re: Bravo Stereo

I r drunk. So that made no sense

But. the supposed orange wire. That was in the place i expected a yellow wire. well i swapped that with a red wire and now it works, as in it retains its memory. Clearly my car got wired up by a colour blind person :/
