It is on the inlet camshaft between the pully and the cam shaft.

Is he not talking about the inlet actuator, under the ECU, not the variator?

The actual VIS actuator is on the left hand side of the VIS unit (looking from the front of the car) it's sort of a little bottle looking thing with a rod going upwards which actually actuates the valve. i believe it to be pressure sensitive. vis unit can be taken out with a bracket underneath (get in through behind the drivers side wheel) and 2 nuts, one holds the dipstick on and the other is on the r/h side of the inlet manifold

OT: WTH is the clutch switch (17) for? I didn't think the Bravo/Marea/Coupe had cruise control as an option and it sure as hell aint for full throttle gear shifts

Adrianbravo do you know much about the solenoid for the variable valve timing and the variable intake system. I have a problem. Could you pm me if you think you could help?
