I am having major problems with my speedo, this problem arose after having a new clutch installed. I drove away from the garage and noticed straight away that the speedo was running slow. I went out following my brother to get a correct reading from his car, it showed at 23mph I was doing 30mph at 30mph I was doing 40mph and at 48mph I was doing 60mph.
The garage since October has tried to put it right but to no avail.
As I understand it there is a plastic cog in the diff (this has been replaced twice) a sender unit (replaced once) a part that the plastic cog locates into (replaced once). The speedo head was also replaced, (it isnt that) the original speedo head is now back in the car.
Over the last 3 months the car has had a diagnostics test by a main Fiat dealer which showed it to be a problem with the plastic cog or in that area.
We even checked the part numbers which appear to be correct.
If anybody can help I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks

So, your car states its going faster than it is. Not bad never get caught for speeding. It can only be the speed transducer, Dashboard clocks.Cannot see it being the wiring..In most cases the speedo reads less, than it should. Although they have replaced the Plastic spigot, have they checked the the mating plastic gear fastened to the diff, for this to be replaced its the box out.

Sorry I didnt make it clear my speedo is slow, at 30mph my speedo shows 23mph, so if I hit a speed camera I am going too fast.
Sorry about the previous letter
Thanks for the help though.

Like it said it can only be a number of factors, but if all the compnets been replaced then make sure the gear inside the gearbox on the differental is o.k and hasn't come off. This still turns but slower due to the friction of the oil between the diff and the gear., had this before.. ;)
