Hi all, I am new to this forum and too fiats, I bought my Brava elx 100 td only yesterday not knowing anything about the red key, but it was just so cheap, now the question I am askin here is, if I buy a new complete o/e lockset for the car will the red key that comes with it reprogramme the ecu or does this have to be reprogrammed seperatly, any info would be helpful, many thanks in advance,:bang:

Fiat's before 2003 came with 3 keys, Red master for programming new keys and several driving keys. Its not a good idea to use the red key for driving as everytime you use it it opens the key memory for programming and you risk scrambling the memory and an undrivable car.

The red key is coded to the ECU fitted to the car so just changing the locks won't work. You'll need a new ECU as well. Fiat will do this (on production of the car docs) or you can lift the whole thing from a scrappy so long as they keys match. Suggest getting driving keys cloned from the red one.

There are guys on here who might help you..Reddy4bed is one...

What keys do you have? or do you have a car with busted locks and no keys .

yeah thanks for yer help rustbucket, but i only have 1 blue key, and apparantly ye need the red key, i have found a couple of sets on ebay but wether there suitable for my car is questionable, but i thought the red key programmed the ecu, not used to these transponder keys, ,lol :D

I would not worry about the master key, providing you always have a spare key you will not get in any deep trouble.
Take your existing key to local locksmiths and get a copy made so you always have a spare. Its when all keys get lost that problems occur.

Thanks to everyone for your help, just been to timpsons in town and they supplied and coded a new key for £30 not bad, just hope the battery is always ok, :D

I've had several Fiats of that age of the years and never, ever needed the red key.

Hi i just been to timpsons in Hove Sussex and they supplied and coded a new key for £30 or 2 for £45, So got 2.(y)(y) :slayer:

Just took in my blue key and they copied it, it doesn't do the central locking but i don't mind as long as it works the car. :slayer:

I had a 1998 1.6 SX B1 for 10 years, bought from new.
The red key went into a draw as soon as I got home from the showroom and didn't see the light of day until I sold the car.

TBH it took me ages to find it. 10 years and my memory......fatal.

I also have no red key for my new Brava, what happens if the Battery in the car goes flat? apart from the obvious!!
