My Bravos M.O.T is due first week of June, im pretty confident it will pass as it feels exactly the same as last year and it passed with only a few advisorys that you would expect, now as the weather is forcasted as pretty good this weekend i think im going to give it a once over. What would be the best things to check?

I'm not 100% on the MOT process, but I'd check:

  • Any visable defects - cracked windscreen, loose bodytrim etc.
  • Tyres/Steering - condition, thread, walls, uneven wear, tracking etc.
  • Suspension - worn bushes, shocks, coil springs, wheel bearings etc.
  • Brakes - pads, discs, shoes, lines, efficiency etc.
  • Lights - indicators, stop/tail, reverse, fog, side, dipped/main beam
  • Check seatbelts and their mounts
  • Test the brakes on a clear road - do they stop sufficiently? pull to any side? does the handbrake hold on a hill?

My MOT is due in June too. Ive been doing some checks and trying to get it ready to pass. Pesonally I don't think mine will. I checked on the DVLA website and got all of the cars previous MOTs and it turns out its failed every other MOT since it was made! It passed its last one with 2 advisorys so im pretty sure its gonna fail this time. Trust me the buy one with gremlins!

The advisorys were corroded brake pipe and misty oil in rear shock absorber (I found out its had this advisory many times in previous mots and replaced each time). I bought this car after its last mot so im pretty sure these two things havent been replaced. Also it was in a front end smash and one of the bolts is missing and the plastic bit to hold it in has snapped off on one of the headlights. It still fits in perfectly and doesn't move though.

Do you think this would be a fail?

Gave my brakes, suspension and bearings a look over yesterday, all are fine, can hear a slight grinding sound from the front which i thought was a bearing but barely any play in either. Picked up some new exhaust hangers because mine have pretty much had it, dont know if it would fail but they would soon so will be changed tomorrow.

im in need of new discs anyhow so i know ill probably get an advisory on them,Its been sat for ages and they kinda rusted over so i been out in it today clearing the discs up lol It drives spot on still, doesnt pull to 1 side, stops when you want it to,handbrake does its job and suspension seems ok,tyres are still brand new and all electrics work :)

But what do i know,im not an mot'er lol

Ill probably get the same advisories as last time, corroded sub frame and rear springs but they said nothing was weakend so its fine.

Although today my car has played up twice and has a new sound, going down the by pass doing 50, injector light comes on, no power but goes away in 5 seconds then when i was braking down to a roundabout in traffic, from 60, the engine cut out, started again straight away so must of just been a slight blip. Now the exhaust is rattling when i come over the power and the revs drop, lucky i got the mounts today and fitted tomorrow.
