Number Plate Fixings

okay have a 2000 modle bravo... & it has adhesive stick on number plates... Im about to get a private reg plate and am having it customised, however legal.. just name at the bottom, but want to take it off once I replace my car, as heard that adhesive plates snap oncde you try to pull them off.... Is there any chance I can get the screw fixings for my bravo.. would I need to go to a fiat garage to get some holes put in or what??

Can anyone help me out and tell me what I need to do???

Wouldn't even consider it, if the fixings aren't there there's no point whatsoever. WHen you sell the car, snap the plates, who cares? The cost of replacing the plates whenver you do that will be less than the cost of fixing holes, the damage you possibly do and how much worse plates with screws look (they rust, always).

A good high street car shop should do that sort of thing...theyre just Self-tapping screws with coloured caps.

The problem is that yu need to put a hole in the plate too....and not damage it!

Re: Number Plate Fixings

the main reason for it is this... when it comes to an MOT, some plates are not passed, so I want easy access so I can remove the plate and put the old one back on. the holes in the plate will already be there won't they when I get the plates made????

Im getting two sets of the same plates, but one has some slight differences, and only want to change them for mot test and thats it.

how much are we looking at here for 2 holes to be made??? well 4...lol!!!

Re: Number Plate Fixings

If the plate doesn't pass the MOT it's not road legal.....

If you make holes you will only be making rust for yourself.

Re: Number Plate Fixings

You can drill the number plate holes fine. You are actually drilling plastic and not metal, so don't need to worry about rust. However, self tapping would obviously be better Just don't make the same mistake i did and stick it on a tiny bit wonky.... doh!

Re: Number Plate Fixings

You can do this yourself if you are careful.

Check to see where you want the holes both on the car and the plates.

Do a temp fix of the plates with double sided pads, they won't get too tight a grip if you put them right at the edge where you can reach them.

Drill through the plates and the car body, now the holes line up.

Get some rubber or plastic grommets from B&Q or similar, enlarge the holes in the body slightly so that they will fit.

Prime and paint the holes, fit the grommets, screw the plate onto the grommets.

You should now have a corrosion free fitting.

Good luck.
