Technical Cambelt

In all the time i've had my bravo, it's never caused me any major problems. but as soon as i come to thinking about getting a new car, it all starts to go wrong. Yesterday i was going to pick my brother up from college and the cambelt decides to go, and i only got it changed 15,000 miles ago. Dose anyone know what kind of damage this might have caused to other bit in the engine like the valves. When the RAC guy came to tow me home, he said it might have bent all the valves, coz on the 1.4 the cambelt is very close to them. Is that ture?

None of the Bravos have a "safe" engine when it comes to cambelts I'm afraid. If it went at speed you could be looking at a new engine.

May be best to get a recon or salvage 1.2 as it's a much better engine than the 1.4.

If it's goin to cost alot to fix i wont bother fixin it, coz when i sell it i wont get my money back when i come to sell it, I was only goin about 15-20mph when it went, and it's all ready on a recon engine.

May be best to break it then chap. Unlucky.

Right I've got a specialst coming to look at it in the morning to give me the bad news, then if it needs a new engine which i'am sure it will it will be broken for spares. So if anyone wants any bits from a bravo 1.4 let me know!

Just had someone round to look at it, and it's not as bad as i first thought. The cambelf has not broken, it lust sliped which caused something holding the cam in place to break. So it is fixable.

similer thing happened to me on my previous rover, the cambelt slipped due to a siezed pully. Worst of it was, being a 10 year old car, with the belt changed just 8000 miles before hand and 8 months ago, they should of advised on replacing the pully's. But in the end I got no retribution from the dealer, so I lost the car in the end, left me pissed off too considering the situation. Voted with my feet anyway, instead of a new rover I got the Brava instead
