hi all
recently noticed that my 1.6 brava has been drinking more fuel than normal. Even on a steady drive about town it only does about 40 miles on £10 of petrol. Ive also noticed that when it starts up when cold the revs are low and it shudders and also i can smell petrol. Any ideas? throttle body?

found out its running rich. plugs are sooty. got some new ones. this down to a dirty air filter or sensor?

which do i test. im lost when it comes to sensor placement. I know where MAF is and that theres no MAP. i thought that lambda would cause emission test fail.

Have just managed to squeeze about 50-55 miles town driving from £10.

maybe an injector is putting out a little less than it should making the lambda see lean and it is richening up to compensate

just thinking cos injectors are a common fault but normaly for missfires not lack of fueling

other things are lambda probe fault air temp sensors is the engine running at the correct temprature on the road

you have a map sensor not an air mass metre it's speed density injection

Temp reads just under half stays there. As for injector, would this show up a low ohms reading? Shall i just stick some redex in and try it?

no no redex is bad you dont need it it never fixes anything anyway just confuses your diagnosis even more so

you could check your injectors 16 ohms i believe each iirc

other things you can check make sure breaks arn't dragging tyres blown up youd be suprised what these factors can do

is 25-27mpg urban driving just normal anyway? checked on parkers and says on there urban for a 1.6 is 25mpg anyway. I dont use a roads much and aint been on a motorway for months now. (use the mrs Merc A-class for that)

I got 50 miles from £10 at 108.9 a litre, so sounds right to me looking at that.

was serviced in november, it gets like a run up to 60mph once a week for a few miles. The temp guage is just (like a couple of mm) under the halfway mark after a couple of miles driving. i did fit a new thermostat and temp sensor. i do get a fuel smell by the throttle body after starting. i didnt find any leaks though.
