hi, i have this intermitent problem with the idle/revs on my
1998 1.4 bravo
when the car comes to a stop ( give way or pulling on to the drive) the revs will start going up and down like someone is dabbing on the throttle.
goes up to about 1500 then back to around 850, on off on off.
this only happens when stationary.
any help or suggestions appreciated.

Hi, sorry forgot to mention this was occuring before i did the minor service,
after reading some posts im edging towards the stepper motor being the culprit, what do u think
thanks

The 1.4 12V is a simple system, like the Tipo ie before it. I had a similar thing on my Tipo 1.4, it would do its "hunting" behaviour when it was nearly warm, say after you stopped for petrol or something like that having driven a mile or two.

It's probably a mixture of the idle control valve / stepper motor, or maybe the temperature sensor (cheap and easy) for the engine management system. In any case you should be able to get a diagnostic done which will indicate anything in the system that is reported as dodgy.

no this a cable operated throttle,
its a bosch monotronic single point injection system
the symptom is like someone depressing the throttle then letting go repeatedly, on, off on, off.
dosnt go past 1500 revs

no this a cable operated throttle,
Yes the throttle is cable operated, but the idle stepper motor on the back of the throttle body can open the throttle up to 18deg.

To test the temperature sensor just unplug it(blue sensor) and see if the car stops reving its self. If theres no change probably idle stepper motor or throttle position sensor.

thanks, will try it out first chance i get, as i said its an intermitent problem (once or twice a day, usall not long after setting off from cold).
