hi! im trying to change my slave cylinder on fiat brava 1.9 jtd.. but im stuck at the bit of removing the rubber pipe on the slave cylinder... i have tried for hours to remove it but it wont budge.. i have tried twisting / pulling it to no avail.... im sure im doing it wrong.... advice needed

please forgive me... I can't quite understand what you refer to.

there should be a couple of 13mm bolts to remove. which solely hold it in place
plus the brake/clutch fluid pipes to remove.

then it should come away..

:yeahthat:
As bridges says the cylinder comes off very easily.

Or have you just got the replacement rod that you have to fit back into the cylinder.

Hi! i'm replacing the slave cylinder.. the old one has a metal pipe connected with a nut on one side and a black hose on other side with a rubber wheelie thingy on it which connects to another metal pipe . Im asking how i can separate the rubber hose in order to bleed the brake fluid.... (hope this makes sense)... :bang:

I think he means the flexi hose into the cylinder.

You should be able to disconnect it at the join with the solid brake hose, then the cylinder comes out with the hose. You can then get the hose off easier or replace it.

Thanks Hellcat.. i've tried pulling flexihose but can't separate it from flexipipe unless im doing it wrong.. can i get a replacement flexihose and just cut this one off if last resort..

There is a bleed nipple under a small rubber cap. I think it is an 8mm nut.

Hi! sorry as im a complete novice at this.... this is what im talking about..

Pink is the bleed nipple If you pop the rubber cover off you can attach a bleed pipe.

Green is the clutch pipe you can undo this to remove the cylinder.

thanks for that phew.... u saved me sabotaging the flexihose pipe.. where can i get a decent cheap bleeding kit or hose...

Fish tank air hose is good enough for bleeding brakes and the clutch. Do I take it that you have removed the battery and battery tray?

yep removed everything apart from cylinder last night and put it back this morning... didn't tighten the screws as i wanted to get the right info before taking it all out again... was quoted £120 by mobile mechanic to do work.... will have another go this evening

finally sorted my clutch today.. thank very much guys for the help and advice after numerous one man band attempts!!! i had been driving for a couple month ignores the (!) sign on dash whilst my brake fluid was low and never checked it until a few days ago when it wont go into gear.. i didn't have to change a new slave cylinder in the end.. if anyone is trying to bleed the clutch get someone to help u pump clutch pedal several times not just once!! whilst you open bleed nipple (half a turn should do) then once the excess air is out.. they should keep pedal pressed down flat whilst you tighten back the bleed nipple then they can release the pedal once you are done tightened.. hope some1 will find this helpful (y):D:p

Just watch out that there isn't fluid leaking out from where the rubber seal is around the piston. They are an at risk item and do seem to be a bit of a weak link.

I've replaced a few including one in the middle of a garden centre car park without battery tray removal - all after a 12 hour night shift! ;)

The fluid must have gone somewhere. I would keep an eye on the brake/clutch fluid reservoir :)
