Hi everybody, as you can see I'm super new here!
i have a 1999 brava 5door and have purchased a remote locking kit from eBay (it doesn't seem to have a brand name on it).
I'm aware that other people have asked similar questions to this but haven't found any which quite help me.
i have started fitting the kit and have connected the lock and unlock wires to the White and the Blue Wires as they come from the passenger door towards the cdl Relay behind the glove box. i have earthed the 3 wires (earth, yellow and yellow/black) and when i connect the wires to the remote box (having connected the power) all the locks simply lock and unlock repeatedly. I'm confused!!! anyone understand what I'm talking about and have any ideas it would be most welcomed!!!
Thanks everyone
Dave

I fitted a universal remote kit on my old polo.

This could be your problem that isn't electrical related.

Check that the rods are connected properly or stiff on all of the door pumps/acuators or whatever there called. otherwise they will lock and unlock straight away if they are not connected properly.

Hawk are a good kit.

ah i see, ok sound slike something to have a look at, thanks very much, il be trying that out tomoro. i think theyr all ok but too be honest anything that could be the reason is worth having a go at!
you driving a brava or bravo at the moment?
dave

yea I drive a brava, well more like sit in it as i cant go nowere yet lol. Luckily this has the central locking and alarm already fitted :D

I did loads of electrical work on my first car the polo. central locking, alarm, toad imobiliser, elecy aerial, driving lamps. but got nothing back for my hard work when i sold it.

Did you have to bend the metal rods? If there not bent enough they will slide loose. They need to be secure enough so they dont move but loose so they dont move when you hit bumps, ive tried to get out of a locked car many times..

did you get a remote with your kit or does it connect to the fiat remote?

heya, well to be honest i havnt tried that yet. im not sure tht is the case with mine as it is locking unlocking fine and dandy at the moment. im converted manual central locking to remote central locking so its a generic brand keyles entry kit, should just have to connect wires and be done! but its still locking and unlocking constantly without me touching it!!! irritating!
why isnt yours driving at th moment?
dave

theres an alarm diagram in back of owners manual but its just tellin you were the factory alarm btis are.

i had a similar problem like you before but connectin to an aftermarket alarm so i could operate alarm and lock doors. You have to find out whether your car central locking is positive or negative locking. but i was connection to an alarm. still couldnt work it so i ditched alarm for toad immobliser.

My car doesnt go anywere because i cant afford £1600 for insurance with no job :( tryin to get even lower quotes but that one was the lowest.

This happened to me when I connected it up as the aftermarket diagram suggested. Their way ended up pulsing every time the thing was operated, causing it to lock/unlock constantly. I ended up using a multi-meter set on continuity check on the outputs to determine the correct connections needed. I've now lost the diagram of how I did it. I'll look at wiring over the weekend if you don't have any joy!

heya,
i undid everything and re did it again very carefully and still the same problem! very annoying, if you do get a moment to have a quick look round ur wiring i would be very grateful. according to my deductions i have the blue thin wire for unlock, a white thin wire for lock. iv been connecting the aftermarket kit wires into the back of the existing cdl relay behind the glove box using the live and earth from there too. as i understand the cdl has negative locking, but im not sure what that means to be honest!

Scrobert, unfortuntely i dont have the manual, wasnt one when i bought the car.
wow thats dear, whys your ins so high? im gutted for you dude, mine was high for a couple years, getting 3 points didnt help either. but i got me an old mini as a project and that helped keep costs down till i had a few years under my belt!

anyway guys any more help you might be able to give would be more than appreciated, as iv said im getting bloody frustrated with the thing!

I'll check my wiring tomorrow. I did all my connections behind the fuse cover by the drivers door.

Negative locking means the unlock/lock wires are momentarily connected to ground (negative) in order for them to operate. It seems your kit is currently wired so it switches ground between the unlock/lock wires constantly!

I don't know what kit you have, but here is the wiring for mine. It has two relays, which the instructions said were for opening and closing respectively. However, this did not work and I only used one of the relays, leaving the other cables disconnected. Here are my connections:

Red - 12V +
Black - 0V -
White/Black 0V
White 0V
Orange/Black to Light Blue/Blue (from door)
Orange to White/Grey (from door)

These last two are the lock/unlock cables which need switching to 0V to operate the lock.

Hope this helps!

Almost certainly as said, the wiring has been set to the wrong pulse mode, you need to connect one of the 3 wires now connected to gnd, to +12v to change over the switching polarity.
I guess it would be the plain yellow one.

hi guys,
thanks for all your help.
turns out that as synchro said the diagrams seemed to be entirely wrong!!
sp with a swift switch around of the wires i have remote central locking!!!
only problem i need to sort now is that i have onl one wire for my indicator lights bit all wiring in my car seems to be seperate for each side. so only have driver side flashers at the moment.
any ideas on this??
thanks again gents

Do you mean so the indicators flash when you operate it?

Just hook it up to the hazard light switch. that way you wont have to send 6 wires to each light lol.

i bought the same thing off ebay, its not a make jus got a random picture of a bird on the box, and the wiring diagram is crap and driving me up the wall, ive looked everywhere for anything that could help, but nothing yet

Hmm, just now I've seen that a post is quite old, but... anyway ! ;)

You need two diodas (1N4001 for example, or 'stronger') to split it for left and right side indicators

o--------|>|-----o left indicator
|
|
o------------------------------o wire from your central unit
|
|
o---------|>|----o right signal indicator

Idea of connecting the wire to hazardous light is pretty good as well, if u can find where is it...
