Hi all, hope someone can point me in the right direction.
My Girlfriend has a Brava 1.4 12v which won't start the starter motor turns and that's as close as it gets. Battery is good and i've replaced all the spark plugs. I suspect the petrol is not getting to the engine but not certain about that. The following warning light has been coming on intermitently for quite some time now but she didn't notice anything wrong with the performance of the car so ignored it.

Hope someone can give me a few pointers as to what the problem could be.

the light on is the injector so prob be fault in your injector best person to ask is jugs

when you turn ignition on, do any of the ignition lights come on. or are there a few missing (like battery and oil) if you have missing lights.. then it could be an earth issue. have a look here;

https://www.fiatforum.com/bravo-brava/188149-help-none-starter.html

BUT with that light have come on before this problem arose, it might not be that. That warning light btw, is the engine management warning light. It being on, means that the ECU has detected a fault and has logged details of the fault in its memory. You can get someone to plug a diagnostic machine into the ECU to read the fault code.

All ignition lights come on as normal.
Found a thread that tells you how to test the injectors on the 1.6 model with a multimeter but as I don't have a manuel for the car at present not sure if 1.4 is different.
I've been enquiring about the cost of used injectors and i've been asked if it's the bar or rod operated version? I don't know, and don't know where exactly they are to find out.

hey its a bit of a thing on the 1.4's the injector light is also the engine management light and as i understand it the injector is pretty indestuctable! my kept coming on for ages until i found the cause after trying loads lol!

first of all has it been serviced lately? i would start with cleaning the throttle body, and check the connectors on it as one of mine had some oil in it and kept causing the light to come on, you could also try reseting the e.c.u by disconecting the battery for half hour either that or you'll need a fiat garage with specialist diagnostics

good luck anyway

Don't know when the last time it was serviced, only paid £400 for it about 1 year ago. Disconnected the battery overnight to charge it up (not that it needed it) just wanted to make sure. Put new spark plugs in at the weekend.
Checked all the fuses their all good.
Their's half a tank of fuel in the tank.

no, i mean have you checked that the plugs are sparking. take off an HT lead, stick summit metal up it and hold it near the engine (by the rubber bit !! ) and get someone to turn it over. see if you get a spark.

then take all the plugs out, get someone to turn it over. can you smell fuel, is it spraying fuel mist out the plug holes?

Not been able to do that yet as so far this week when i've had a day off my other halfs been wrking so nobody to turn it over while I check the plugs etc. 1st chance i'm going to get to do that will be Sunday. The only reason I changed the plugs 1st was cause the old ones were knackered.

Unfortunatly Sunday's going to be my 1st chance to do these things.

All plugs sparking, no petrol coming from plug holes when engine is turned over, only clouds of dust no hint of petrol at all.

Just reading your comment about the fuel seems a bit strange, to save confusion you should take the bob off the top of the single point injector and watch for a mist of fuel inside the throttle boddie. You wont see the fuel injecting near the sparkplug sockets because the bravo only uses one fuel injector in the single point injection throttle boddie. To remove the SPI cover you undo 3x 10mm bolts, the cover is round.

Can you hear the fuel pump prime when you turn the key one notch?

Theres a fuel safty cut off button under the passenger seat sometimes the button goes bad it could be faulty, try pussing it to reset.

3rd check fuel pump and injector fuse and possibly relay's, 3 and 5 in this diagram

Pushed the button under the passenger seat, turned the engine over and it started. My other half said she had been cleaning inside the car if that button was pressed would it have cut the fuel? or is it just a fault that could reoccur?
Thanks a lot to all for your help.

Glad its sorted.
Im not sure about either point to be honest. Other members have said the buttons contacts can become corroded, making the button useless when you need to reset.

Once my engine sorted im stripping my interior so ill have a closer look at the button, ill try pushing it to see if that cuts out my fuel pump aswell.

Perhaps someone else knows.

Hi

That light means your cars ECU has detected a fault. A garage will be able to read the fault codes and tell you what fault the ECU is detecting.

If you fix the fault the light will go out. Start a thread about your problem and detail any issues your car is having.
