Self Learning - How long does it take?

Hi,

Recently replaced a fuel injector in my fiat brava 1.6 16v 1996 'p' reg. I disconnected the battery for a good 3 days whilst waiting for the part to arrive so it could self learn again.

How long does this process take and is it right that it will use more fuel during this process.

Thanks

Usually takes about 100miles of driving and yes it will use more fuel in that time.

Re: Self Learning - How long does it take?

Cars now done 200miles. There was a surge of power this morning and suddenly it seemed fine. I only drove it for 5 miles after that though so i'm not counting my chickens just yet.

Fingers crossed.

Is it true that you have to leave it at idle for five minutes the first time you start it after disconnecting the battery to initiate the ECU reset? Last time i disconnected my battery it ran like a sack of cr@p for the first five minutes (I didn't leave it at idle) but then I stopped it and re-started and seemed fine - very strange

Left mine to idle for a while probably 10 minutes then drove it. It was like a sack of **** for 200 + miles and drank loads. Hopefully it will be ok now. I'm certainly not spending any money on it.

Re: Self Learning - How long does it take?

Might have spoken too soon. Fuel consumption is back to normal but it's still running really rough.

Took it to waterworld in Stoke on Trent yesterday, a journey of 86 miles each way. Great day out by the way, loads of chavs though. It was really rough for about 80 of those miles, then all of a sudden it was fine. All the way back it was fine. Then on the way back from my girlfriends it was rough again. Can't figure it out.

I'm sure that some sensor or something is playing up but i don't know where to start looking.

Re: Self Learning - How long does it take?

I have similar issue wiht rough running sometimes. When driving on motorway engine runs rough at 3000rpm but smooth and quiter at 4000rpm, but I also have problem with intermittent high idling (1100when hot).
I do not recomend you to spend a lot money on this car, I changed idle speed motor on mine but there is no diference, I also spend on new temperature sensor by mechanics advice, then new thermostat, but there was no difference, too.
I think the best way is to measure resistance with multimeter on electrics components if you can.
good luck

Mine's running great now, like a dream. Well it's a brava but it's as good as a fiat brava gets. Must be a slow learner.
