Hi guys,

Looking for some help i have just taxed and mot'ed car

Fiat Bravo Y REG 1.2 16v (82,000 on clock)

Had new clutch amongst other small things so it could pass its MOT.

now the car was running sweet as a nut. But 2 days after passing its MOT i took it to the shops, after leaving the shop and re entering the car and turning the ignition. NOTHING?

It turns the Lights, Indicators, radio and dashboard displays for all the previous, but i get the following that dont show

no showing
Oil light when turned to MAR
Key / Immobilzer light
Battery Light

Now i have reconnected the battery after leaving it over night. Still the same I have recharged the battery so its fully charged still the same.!!

How annoying seening i have just spent nearly £600 for it to have new clutch tax mot and other things! (thats nearly what its worth)/.

Any ideas im guessing its either an electrical fault or the ECU has decided to give up on me! any help will be much appreciated..

Ow to put the cherry on the cake when i went outside this morning to reconnect the battery after having to get help to push it from the shop! I found that i had a flat!! God Damn cars are expensive!

Any help will be much appreciated! Thanks!

Kind Regards Sam!

What current and voltage is the battery giving out? Checked the connectors are nice and tight on the battery? Check all fuses in the engine bay behind and infront of the battery and in the drivers side footwell.

Yes mate all of the above, apart from voltage check, although like i say all lights radio wipers screen wash etc all work,

Could it be somthing to do with the clutch because its new,. Is their any electrics near by which may cause this kind of error?

main earth cable from the gearbox to inner wing at a guess. would've been removed when they took the box off to do the clutch, guess it's not back on properly.

to confirm, clip a jump lead onto the engine, anywhere chunky and metal, and connect the other end to the NEGATIVE terminal of the battery and then try it.

if it works, then it is an earthing issue. if it doesnt work then you've only wasted 5 mins, not an hour farting about with cleaning earth leads up.

where abouts on the engine do i link the jump lead up and what does this do, thanks!

link it to anywhere solid and metal.

on a car electrical system, the whole bodywork is wired to the negative terminal of the battery, it's called negative ground. connections are made to ground through the car, the oil pressure light (that is not coming on) works by connecting a wire to ground (via the engine) when there is low pressure (ie engine off). many other sensors ground onto the engine as well. the engine itselfl sits on rubber mounts, and the exhaust hangs off rubber mounts, so the engine is insulated from the body. to overcome this, there are earth wires that connect the engine / gearbox to the body of the car. if one has failed, then the engine is not earthed, and sensors and the like don't work because they're no longer earthed / grounded.

reconencting the engine to the battery terminal with a jump lead will do the job of an earth lead, without the hassle of finding the earth lead, cleaning it, refitting it etc. this is only a diagnostic test.

Bingo!!!!

If you was near me now id kiss you lol, i have been stressing like a woman all day! it didnt turn over but the lights did as they were meant to and it did try to so its an earthing problem! Top Man thanks alot! at least i know where to start now!
