Technical Fixing My 1.4 Bravo Engine Misfire

the cross-hatched marks you can see on the bore are honing marks, they are meant to be there, and the fact you can still see them shows the engine is not badly worn. conversly on his original block the honing marks are all but gone and there are deep vertical scratches in the bore. this is bad.

Yeah as arc says my original has no honing marks whatsoever, Infact they are uttlerly smooth. Well apart from the very wrong vertical scratches.

Cheers arc I was going to hone it and do the rings (I didnt know honing was necessary, ta for that info:D ) Now my dads saying dont bother with new piston rings, so im in two minds

if it were, me, i wouldn't bother mate. It's not like the engine is going to be pushed hard - it's not got a tuned head on it, nor is it revving to silly rpm.

my view is same as above, you can see that bottom end is in pretty good nic, the honing marks are still clear as day so i wouldnt bother replacing the rings and honing (would would probabl need oversized pistons if you did)

stick in some new shells and it'll be good (y)

I have no luck
Came to a strange looking braket I thought that cant be a fiat part;

Im so gutted here this feels horrible. Im sat with a 1.6 in my back yard a 1.4 with a smashed mount. And a dead car on the street.

I bet it was crashed bodged and failed on the next mot with unsafe mount.

for a moment i thought you have managed to snap the block Mr. Muscles! lol

is that really an engine mount?

do you have a photo of the one on the block currently in the car?

if you were sold that as being a good block then send it back and get your money refunded.

Ry

Ive checked in my car, its this mount. The front divers side. theres no way it would pass an MOT and theres no way id be happy to drive with it like that.

oh **** flaps i agree with ryan on the rings if the bores are like that no honing would be required thats old technology and as he said i wouldnt bother with rings either the ones it has are obviously settled in fine

howether in your current situation this has no relivence any more i realy feel sory for you now

and i would definately send that and the 1.6 back for a refund now that comes nowere close to a decent block it's smashed the guy selling you it should have spotted that right away taking it out what a noob:bang::bang::bang: theres always the posability he coud send you another if he has or could find one i spose but i personaly after whats he's done so far wouldnt wana deal with him again

Gutted for you. Always a pi$$er when someone sells you a heap of crap!! Hope you can get a refund - thretaen them with going to trading standards!!

Duggers

Sods law strikes again. Gutted for ya mate. However we all have that same ****ty luck some days. Definately get them to take the engine back.

Personally i would put the old engine back together again, sell the car and buy something better. It'll probably cost you the same.

£800 will buy a nice MK2 Bravo or a decent Marea (mareas are cheaper then Bravo/a's). Sell yours for around £500, add the rest and you have a working car, piece of mind and less stress.

He wants to send me another, says it will be here monday or tuesday.

Joske I dont think it will run for more than a few miles if i put it back toghether. The bores are as smooth as glass apart from the bad vertical scoring, I think the 1st cylinder would oil up again and foul the plug.

There should be 3 ribe bolts holding that mount to the block. On the bodge there are only two. Most people probably wouldnt notice like you say, but I dont think it would pass if it was noticed. I definatly wouldnt want it in my car.

cant disagree, i wouldnt want it in my car either in that condition.

when is the new block arriving?

Yesterday  according to the bloke.

Ive roped my dad into helping me do the actual engine swap. He seems to think propping the gear box on something and only taking the engine out will be the best option.

I think taking the engine and gearbox out together would be best, to avoid accidents i.e Damaging drive shafts and diff. I wanted to change the gearbox oil aswell.

What do you lot think?

Today cleaned up the paint in the engine bay more. Ill wax it eventually. Cleaned up a few other brackets for painting.

you will have trouble getting the gearbox and engine mated back together if you try leaving it in the car i would of thought, i wouldnt try it myself but then i tend to have an engine crane available that makes things easier.

how heavy is the 1.4 engine?
