Does anybody know what the hell these valves are that im being told about? and where I can get one? Please help he is so slow at the minute and I not be liking it.

Re: EGR Valves

Simple check.

If it gets to 3000rpm and runs out of power - symtops of MAF sensor failure.
If it has no power under 3000rpm then boosts - symtoms of EGR failure.

Case 1. Unplug the MAF - if it runs fine after then it's in need of a MAF.
Case 2. Block the pipe between EGR and manifold/exhaust using a blank gasket. If it runs fine after it needs a EGR.

Re: EGR Valves

Lack of information, however from experience the MAF sensor will result in poor accelleration, the EGR will affect it a little but you'll notice more smoke if its the EGR. Replacing the MAF (Mass Airflow Meter) should see your car right. Genuine parts are approx 150, ebay ones about 40 but they aren't as good. You can fit it yourself, its the air sensor thats found just after the air filter box with a plug going into it.

Re: EGR Valves

Yeah it is really really slow on the acceleration and as soona s I get to 3000 revs thats as far as it will go. Its just really annoying cos it was quite nippy off the mark but i am now being destroyed by a bloody clio. Does this sound like the symptoms of what you suggested?

Re: EGR Valves

Go and unplug the MAF, and order a new one. You want a genuine Bosch one (try big motorfactor suppliers like Andrew Page). You can drive around a while with it unplugged but I wouldn't run it for too long with it unplugged as it's used to give the engine the info it needs.

FYI the MAF sensor is the plug going into the air pipe just after the air filter.
Thanks sshnlawson thanked for this post

Im sure i said this in my first post,

And yes it sounds definately like the MAF. Do a search on the Bravo/a section for MAF sensors and you'll find where to find them the cheapest. Think i remember it being 80 for a new bosch sensor from a place in Scotland.

Re: EGR Valves

You didn't suggest to unplug it to firm up the diagnosis.

Thats because its not an accurate test. If i unplug the MAF on my JTD it runs like a 50CC moped. No go in it at all. As soon as i connect the MAF, whoosh, im away.

Re: EGR Valves

Why's yours act different to every other JTD that's had a dodgy MAF?

It doesn't. You've just failed to realise that not all JTDs are the same. There are different phases of JTD engines with different electronics. I.e there are Bravo/a, Marea JTDs with mechanical EGRs and some with electronic EGRs. Phase 2 and Phase 3.

Re: EGR Valves

Ok mr people skills, he said Bravo 105. That's same engine as my 105 marea with the first of the JTD unit, basic EGR and which responds to a MAF removal. I know fine well there are differences between the JTDs.. excuse me though for not knowing exactly how every one of them works.

No need to be like that.

Re: EGR Valves

Did the MAF turn out to be the problem? And equally importantly, is the car back up to full speed?
