fiat brava 1.4 12v s plate ...wont disengage clutch still trying to drive with clutch down and making a squeiling noise when any contact with clutch pedal any ideas .what do i need to replace

Faulty slave cylinder wont cause a squeel, it'll just leak fluid everywhere and cause the pedal not to return to its normal position. Its more than likely one of the compenents of the clutch has gone completely. New Clutch time.

The only possibility I can see regarding the slave is that if, as what commonly occurs, it was low on pressure and unable to force the release bearing into the diaphragm in order to release the clutch, it might however have just have enough pressure to partially seperate the friction plate.. and maybe squeel

What I suspect though is that the friction plate has broken up. Have had this on 2x Fiat coupe 20v's

Sounds like your clutch cylinder.

If you remove your battery tray its under there on top of the gear box.
had a look this morning no signs of leaks but i think it shares with brake fuild which is at a very low level just now so this wont help at all thanks for the help will top it up and take it from there

Yes, they share from the same reservoir, a low level could be indication of a problem. This is the 1st warning sign.
I've had one go with no visual leaks.
If you watch as someone slowly operates the clutch you will see it moving the clutch arm across.

well topping up made no difference so new clutch needed told there are 2 different clutchs 180mm & 200mm depends on what model of gearbox cant see any numbers stamped on box might have to wait till old clutch is out to messure up to find out what one im needing

Does the slave cylinder (piston) move the arm across though. If you have run the reservoir low then you will need to bleed it. What does the clutch pedal feel like. If sloppy then its a good indication of no fluid in the actual cylinder. Otherwise its new clutch kit time.

I had a similar problem once, the clutch pedal went down and didn't come back again, as the clutch cable suddenly broke (not really broke, but it did suddenly get lenghtened about 1 cm) so the clutch woudn't disengage anymore, I did fix it by tightening the slackness at the clutch lever (the lever at the clutch in the engine bay, not the one which you press)

dont know if you have this kind of problem, tough

fiat brava 1.4 12v s plate well ive now changed clutch and lost 3rd gear just crunching when i go for 3rd ....also gained a leak on
CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER which ended up giving me no brakes by the time i got home .........not very handy and no warnings showing (n)apart from pedal fading to the floor.u would have thought fiat would have thought about making two bits in the tank for fluid one that does clutch and second part that does the brakes like most other cars !
when having it apart the thrust bearing was in a handful of bits and clutch pressure plate had no blades left down one half due to the clutch fork contacting it
not so clever fiat

A lot of cars share the same reservoir, i'm afraid :(
Normally the brake warning light should illuminate a low fluid level, but often they do not.
Ford use a slave cylinder that is internally mounted in the gearbox when it goes it really destroys the clutch friction plate, they are more reliable but cost around £60 and you have to remove the gearbox hence why whenever you do a clutch on a ford you do the slave at the same time. or vice versa.
