I bought my missus a 2000 Fiat Bravo the other day.
One of the problems with it is that the Clutch is weird. You press it down and as you get so far down the pedal goes rock hard so you cant push it anymore, unless you really force it down. It drives spot on and at the point where the clutch goes hard it changes into gear no problem and its biting so it its not like the clutch is slipping or anything. Ive had a bit of an inspection but cant seem to see anything unusual (im not a mechanic though) - Ive also had a look at my BravA andtried to see if it looks different - again, nothing I can see.

Anyone know what it would be why this pedal just goes rock hard when you get so far down.

This and it needing a new exhaust is the only problems with it.

Anyone? ;)

Has it got the sort of mileage on it that could indicate the clutch is worn out? No odd noise? My Brava had a very heavy clutch for quite a while before it eventually failed and in my case it was so worn and the release bearing so knackered, that the release arm actually contacted the clutch cover. If you've got that happening, it could give you the 'hard spot' you're experiencing. Mine was difficult to engage any gear for a couple of weeks before finally, it started making an awful racket and it was obvious something was badly amiss....

First I think that I would have a look at the slave cylinder (can be just seen under the battery tray and is a hydraulic piston which moves the clutch arm across) and have someone operate the clutch to see what is going on, whether the slave cylinder is coming all the way out. particularly as vou have another similar car to view.
Otherwise as the Professor says. It could be the part of the clutch failing.

Cheers guys... Ill have a look at it...
Ive got the car in at Kwik Fit tomorrow for a Back to Middle exhaust replacement so when I get that back ill get it on the ramp and check it out.

Mine is a 98 Brava 1.8 ELX so im assuming it will have the same Clutch?!!

I bought the car knowing something was up with the clutch so I knocked the used car garage down £200 for that and a replacement Back box.

long story short, new clutch kit required. I had same prob on my brava, the clutch will eventually go. £230 supplied and fitted i'm afraid. (n)

Even bigger problem......the car has been crashed.......by my missus......into me! :(

Ive got a Brava. We were helping a friend move house and the floor was damp. I stopped at the lights and the missus put her breaks on but I dont think she compensated for the extra weight in the back of her car and she went straight in teh back of me.

Needs a new bumper, bonnet, Driver side headlight and the bar that goes across the car just under the bonnet (Where the Chassis number is).............

:(

My Brava has a cracked bumper! Saved by the fact that I had a tow bar I think!
