Hi everyone,

I got my R-reg Brava today, my first car (!) so I'm keen to keep it looking nice etc.

The question I have is the fuel cap spins round when it's meant to be 'locked'. I can't take it off (because the key is not in it) but it's loose even when I'm not trying to take it out. If you know what I mean.

Is this normal?

Welcome to the forum chap and nice choice of car. :D

Yes that is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about.

Congrats on your purchase Will :). Have you pictures of your new car? Yes, the petrol cap should spin freely when locked but won't pull out. Getting the damn thing open and shut was the hard bit when I first got it. I believe it's known as stick key in, wriggle about a lot, put petrol in, put key in, wriggle about some more until locked ;)

Thanks for the welcome.

I have a few pics, yeah, nothing special but it suits my purpose. It's pretty bog standard, bar the alloys. I have a different radio to stick in it and might eventually look at a few modifications but I've got nothing planned at the moment.

All looks fine to me, keep it as is :)

Helz, as for the fual cap, easier to open if you use one hand to keep it still and the other to turn the key ;)

.....runs away.... :D

Cheers lads but after a year of owning the car I think I might have run out of petrol had I not worked it out yet :p. Just pointing out that it's not easy the first time you come to do it so our new friend Will doesn't feel quite so bad :D.
